We are supposedly "grandfathered in", as they say.
I don't want to give you or anyone else in the same situation false hope about this. The last time I renewed mine was in May 2019, before the insurance requirement was added to the list. So I will not know from first hand personal experience about this "grandfathered in" deal until I renew again this coming May. I am only passing along what a couple of other expats who renewed very recently told me. Perhaps you can get a confirmation of it with a personal visit to Immigration before you throw in the towel entirely.
I already have health insurance from a provider in Thailand, Pacific Cross. I have had health insurance since I moved here several years ago.. But, of course, I never mentioned it or showed proof of it at Immigration because I didn't need to before. My plan is to bring the documentation of it to Immigration at my next renewal but only give it to them if they ask for it or they tell me outright it is necessary. I want to test this "grandfathered in" rumor. If I am "grandfathered in", I'd prefer they just carry on without requiring it of me rather than get in the habit of expecting it.

Just FYI. Today I went to Immigration to apply for my 1 year retirement visa. I had a 90 day visa previously. I took all the required documents they requested and everything went smooth and easy. I pick my Visa up tomorrow. Guys you can do this stuff yourself as long as you meet the requirements. Don't give your money to someone to do something you can do. Try it yourself. 14,000 bt. Man, that's anywhere between 10 to 14 shortimes you could be enjoying. For * I know it's more like 6 or 7 because he tip BIGGGGGGGG! But that a different story. I had an NoN immigrant O which requires no health insurance unlike the NoN immigrant O-A Visa that do require insurance. I did the 65 k a month option. I use the Jomtien office. They want you to use the office within the area you're living.
Yes. They wanted to see the source of your income. Mine was S. S and Military pension. Those documents are easy to get. Now on the bank documents it will have how the money got to ThIaland. Like the bank name in the states.
As far as the money source papers. S. S. And Military. They didn't spend very much time looking at those compared to looking for the monthly deposits on the bank statement.

And secondly how much one has to pay from where they drop you off to soi 8 on beach road? Hopefully it won't be much of a haggle and hassle.

Once they know you are soft that is all it takes. Now you know I'm not a handsome man and if you didn't know I got no game but in my hay day now being a tour guy for my cousins whenever they are in town seem to have seen it all when it comes to the girl's behavior.
My cousins are those who spend a lot because they have it and don't miss it when they do. In Vegas / Macau they are considered to be Whales although they pay the majority of the time the going rate they have no problem BF girls they want at GoGos along with their friends and paying them well for days if they like them. If you don't make things clear that is when the shit hits the fan. It has happened to me a number of times in the past I got stories you wouldn't believe when I think back I at times cherish and smile?

Non-o does not have the insurance requirement at least for now.

The Cost is 130 THB and I paid 50 THB also for my big suitcase. They stop at 3 Stops at Sukhumvit Rd. In Pattaya. After 90 min. Drive I leaved the Bus at the second Stop and then took a Motorbiketaxi, which are waiting outside. I negotiated 120 THB from the Bus Stop to my Hotel in Soi Buakhao with my big suitcase on my knees.
Everything was OK. Would do it again. When there is demand they also leave the Airport more frequently than every 30 min.

Taken right to my hotel, no hassle, comfy, 600 baht each included the tip.
I'd recommend the Bell Bus to anyone. Door to door service and a lot cheaper than a taxi.
If you prefer a taxi though, this company only charges 1000 from main airport in BKK to Pattaya.

It's reliable, clean and quick for a bus. One downside is that sometimes it fills up early and you may need to wait for up to an hour for the next bus. Stops at North / Central / South Pattaya roads, 2-3 km from the beach (walking distance, unless you have a big bag). The bus terminates at a small station near Jomtien, on Thappraya Rd just north of the Thep Prasit Rd intersection. It's actually quicker and more convenient than regular Bangkok-Pattaya buses from Ekkamai, which only stop on the North Pattaya road, farther away from most of the city.

For Soi 8, best to get off at Central Road (Pattaya Klang). Hiring a motorbike taxi or a songteaw down to the beach should be 100 baht or so if you haggle successfully or 10 baht if hail get a shared one (not sure if they run). If you take the bus all the way down to the terminal at Jomtien, you can get back to soi 8 for 10+10 baht on shared songteaws (with a change in South Pattaya), but that takes a bit longer.

Bus from airport to Pattaya North bus station then minivan to your hotel. Booking online only, everything included.
Thanks for the useful info. I always take taxi but this time the flight is way too early so I want to take it easy. Hopefully I will find hotel toom available at 9 am with some extra payment. I agree that Bell service is very good, but they don't start till 8. 30 AM which is 2 hours extra for me. The airport bus is supposed to be every 30 minutes.
However, the 1000 be taxi seems pretty good too. If I could find someone to split with, I would so in a hear beat.

There's a thread on Pattaya Addicts stating that some girls are trying to charge 1500 on Soi 6 now, anyone on here been asked for that.
1000 is the maximum for me, when you add on a drink for you and the girl and barfine, Soi 6 isn't cheap anymore, especially considering the quality of most of the girls.

It does seem to be the best and most economical option considering that I will be very early anyways and may need to kill some time before reaching hotel so early in the morning. Appreciate the tip.
