Some Basic Recommendations for the Newbie to PC
First time reporter here, and brother, I had NO IDEA something like this Forum even existed until very recently. (Like manna from Heaven!) I've been punting for years, but always 'guerilla' style, with almost no one to share my 'hobby' with, so great to talk about some hard earned lessons with fellow enthusiasts, and pick up some good tips as well. I've RTFF extensively, and some of this may be repetitious, but I think it's worth mentioning again, especially for those who are about to see all that Panama City can offer.
This Spring I had the chance to be in PC for almost 10 days and indulge in our avocation for extended periods of time when not working:
1) My first tip is find a good, UNDERSTANDING cabbie! I was lucky enough to find a 'gentleman' who enjoys our sport, and would be mine for the DAY at $10 an hour. Very reasonable. He knew everyone and every place to go. Just ask around when you get there, cabbies are hungry for the biz, and many are as open minded about the world as you are. The assurance of a multi-hour fare is great find as far as they are concerned. I tipped mine, daily for his good work, and bought him lunch as he took me to local, excellent, but inexpensive little joints. If you are like me and really like to get into the local scene, this can all be a wonderful cultural experience in and of itself.
2) My personal favorite is SW action, but that appears not to be all that common, certainly not during the day. Nights may be different, but tactically, that was not an option for me.
3) That leaves the brothels, and casinos, and man, that was enough! My guide in to 'el Mundo Negro' as my driver jokingly called it (the 'dark world') took me to over a dozen joints, many previously mentioned in other FR's here, but several stand out. La Gruta, Azul, Miami, and Golden Times. Cost was about $80 for an hr. On average, but I'm all about thrift and had some wonderful $40 experiences with 'daytime' specials for 45 min. Or so. BBFS seems to be the norm, with anal only rarely. But as everywhere, a little more 'jack' does a lot of talking. Tipping did not seem to be required, but I did so when services warranted, but never extravagant.
One joint deserves a special mention, La Bocatoreno, and it's sister joint right next door, El Mayor, in the Panama Viejo district, or old Panama City. Brothers, I've been known to monger in some pretty 'desperate' places in the world in search of exotic poony, but this place made me wish I'd brought the Delta Force team as back up. My taxista/guide easily goes 3 bills and he stayed right at my side, but I was DEFINITELY the only gringo in that place. Never had any issues however, and would highly recommend for the more adventurous mongerer. La Bocatoreno refers, by the way, to someone from a region in Panama, La Bocas del Toro, and is definitely the better place of the two. I don't recall the street, but no worries, every cabbie in PC will know it. I would suggest perhaps a daytime visit for your first try, and they are usually open by noon. The place is a classic hole-in-the-wall bar with a motley crew of caballeros and many chicas (mostly grade B, frankly) all milling around in a sweaty, dark and dank place drinking relatively cheap beer. I like to keep my wits about me in this kind of place and stuck strictly with 'coca cola diete, por favor'. You pick the chica, strike a price (as in all of Latin America, everything is negotiable) and off you go upstairs for 20 min. Of whatever you can arrange. Your 'room' is an extra $10-12, and you pay beforehand. Now fellas, if you are a Norte Americano, you are not going to get the locals pricing menu, which I understood to be about $15. My fun was more like $25, after a bit of negotiation, but that is pretty damn cheap by any standard, and the 'low down' atmosphere of this place is not to be missed if you have the nerve. My 30+ yo chica (Columbiana and about a 7/10) actually found me, stalking me with those "come hither" eyes for a half hour. Only 5'4" or so, petite with very fair skin and dynamite legs and dressed very nicely, she was clearly one of the best available. Being a bit of the 'dog' I am, I enjoyed sitting at a table with my guide, drinking my refresco and watching the incredible scene for the first half hour or so. My little heart's desires had to 'work for it' a bit to get me if you know what I mean. And as a Norteno, you WILL get all the attention you need from the chicas here. As they say in Mexico, the ladies know you have $$ because your eyes are green!
4) As for the casinos, I can't give much good info there though I'm led to understand Veneto and others are good for late night hook ups. As previously stated, my punting was mostly confined to day time stalks, and though I devoted some time to it, the casinos seemed to be bereft of all life while the sun was up!
5) No report on PC for the first timer would be complete without a discussion of the famous 'Habana Club', directly across from the Marriott Hotel downtown. I was able to observe this astounding establishment in some detail; by day, an innocent, and mostly empty little cigar shop, but by night, freelancer central! A little bar with mostly outdoor seating rolls up those metal garage doors in the early evening and voila!, putas start hopping out of cabs as the sun goes down. By 10 PM it's definitely hopping with 30, 40 sometimes 50 of the most delicious looking pros you've ever seen. To my eyes and tastes, they were many 10s, and from all over the world it seems, just standing around waiting for the chance to give you some real pleasure. An indulgence here is going to set you back $150 or more for ST at your place, even with some strong negotiation skills, but the selection is truly the best I've ever seen, and I don't mind saying I've mongered all over the western hemisphere and for more years than I would like to admit. For the full experience, I'd suggest a gentleman dress in what I call the 'uniform' for places like this, casually, but nicely (nice slacks, pressed shirt, GOOD, and well polished shoes). The goal is you want to look like you have the money to play the game and you will not lack for attention from the very best this place has to offer. Get there a bit early (by 8 PM or so) to ensure a seat, kick back, buy a nice cigar and match it up with an ice cold beverage. Then enjoy the show and all the attention you'll receive. OUTSTANDING!
6) Most of the better looking SPs (80%?) in PC will be Columbianas, and if that nation is exporting only their B quality fillies, I can't even imagine what the 'source' has to offer. True Panamanians in the biz seem to be a rarity. But fear not, if you like to dabble internationally, as I also saw a sprinkling of Russians, Dominicans, etc. Personally, the ladies of Argentina are the most beautiful in the world for me, but unfortunately, they know it. The damas of Columbia and Venezuela come a close 2nd, and if you like your fun Latin style, you will NOT be disappointed.
7) Spanish. Bros, it would obviously be helpful if you are fluent enough to get around, and if not, try to master a few basic phrases. Frankly, every place I've mentioned can be negotiated without it. But if you find your taxista/guide, he can be a big help. As for the Habana Club, only one language is necessary there! $$ and a desire for fun!
