Hello James.

Kenya is different from the DRC there are here no rebels like there and the safety here is good.

I am a muzungu (white men) and live all more than 5 years in the outskirt of Nairobi and do not have a bodyguard here in Kenya and I travel always around but when I go to the DRC.

For my business I call my contacts there to organized my personal safety with bodyguards. I have learn by a hard way to use them for security and pay the warlords also.

That is also the reason that the hotels in the DRC are more expensive as in Kenya a other thing is that you can only go by day time because the electric power is low and the most bars are closing when it go to be dark also for the safety.

When you are robbed in airport taxi, you lose everything, money, credit card, passport. All you have left are clothes which you have on.

When I was staying In Rio de Janeiro that happened a few times, what robbed ones had to do was to go their embassy, get emergency travel document, borrow money from embassy for fly ticket, and fly with next flight back home. Those tourist gave very bitter comments about Brasil when interviewed.

Same thing if hotel room is robbed, I can understand that Wolverine and others are complaining still after many years.

However, what was good in that German guy and taxi article, was that only reference for same kind of incident was 10 years ago in Kilifi.

This was only article that I have seen about common criminal robberies in Mombasa lately. I haven't seen or heard that robberies there are on rise.

What worries me are Somali attacks, but not enough so far that I would stay away from there. I am just waiting to get enough vacation days to go there again.

At least she is not carrying a gun.

There are literally, dozens of girls just meters away from the first. Price is never an issue (for me) in Thailand. Nor safety, that's why elderly and aging mongers walk around freely. These men are only victims in Kenya.

Although I understand now, this link goes to the current Daily Nation newspaper. So Lamu attack news is not there anymore.

Anyway, please keep posting news of security situation. Lamu don't worry me, it is so far away, and near Somali border. It was this region and terrorist attacks there that prompted Kenya send army over border, so it has been problematic a long time.

This goes to politics now, but I don't believe that terrorist thread would go away even if Kenya army will leave from Somalia, like many people believe. Some terrorist leader has promised so, but how well is he controlling all the terrorist, and how long he will be even alive, in that job you get usually killed by internal or external disputes. When Somalia is normal country again, terrorist thread will go away and not before.

Let's hope that it will happen so that we can go to do some mongering to Somalia also, but I am afraid that we have to wait long.

So what is it like there at the moment on the main seen and on the beach.

My source is my ex-girl which we chat on WhatsApp, She blame the media claiming that they cover the crime/war way out of proportion, but I blame the Kenyan authorities.

In Thailand the Army arrest many taxi drivers in Phuket for being a Mafia with high price of taxies. The army/police said that less tourist coming because of that and the government loss income. I wish the kenya Authorities had 1/10 of that intelligence or awareness regarding the situation in their own country.

There are stories about fresh attacks (today) in Lamu.

This are the real prices what the local paid but the girls ask the tourist more special in the costal area and Nairobi.

It is like the National parks the price for a tourist is high 80 $ and for a citizen 20 $ the hotels the same.

That is why I always advise to contact a local contact to make your reservations it is the same as all over the world tourist pay more except they have a local to arrange it for them.

Of course you must pay your local but you save more and they know the best places.

Russian tourist succumbs to gunshot injury in Mombasa.

A Russian tourist succumbed to gunshot injury in Mombasa in Sunday, moments after she was shot on the forehead.

Mombasa county's director of health Dr Hadija Shikeli confirmed that the tourist died while in the theatre at Mombasa hospital.

The bullet was lodged in her head.

The young tourist was shot while touring a historical site in Mombasa.
According to the police, the tourist was touring Fort Jesus – a 16th century Portuguese-built fort and a Unesco World Heritage Site – with two other people when three gunmen opened fire and grabbed a bag containing cameras, phones and other personal belongings. -

Lamu is 200-300 kilometers from Mombasa north beach, where most of the mongering happens.
