Dr. BJ's was first on my list of places to check out, as it was only 2 Soi down from my hotel. But a flight delay at NRT screwed me over and I didn't even get to check in until about 1 am. The first few times I shopped at the MBK Center I didn't mind its haphazard arrangement. I enjoyed wandering the narrow aisles, getting jostled by the other patrons, never knowing what curious electro-gimcrack would turn up in the next stall. (For example, a cell phone that looked like it was built in 1985, but fully functional on the modern network.) I also like how tiny stalls selling food were interspersed among the stall hawking gadgets.

But the past few visits I was less enamored of MBK, which started to seem like nothing but crowds, chaos and confusion. As an infrequent patron I got lost easily and it was always a struggle to find that one good stall where I had found what I wanted two years ago. Finally, as others have noted, MBK emphasizes all things cell phone and that's not really something I'm interested in as a visitor.

I will definitely check out Pantip, especially now that I know I can combine electronic shopping with certain naughty boy pursuits.

Day 29 Thursday March 27,2014 Bangkok Day 13 (Semi Monogamy) Part 2:

Also, location wise Soi 13 is not my favorite Soi, but it offers easy access to Soi 11 through the Ambassador Arcade and otherwise it is a fast walking commute to Sukhumvit.

One more thing about the Radisson: it is part of the Carlson Hotel Group. I had around 22,000 pts with Carlson from a stay I previously had at their Amsterdam hotel a while back. Before leaving on this trip, Carlson had offered me their signature Visa credit card with an 80,000 pt signing bonus. So after my stay at the Radisson Suites this trip my cumulative point level was over 130,000 pts.
