Doubtful that she would have learned the aboriginal type languages spoken there.

She probably had a big spender regular and learned some phrases. Doubtful she learned all of Mandarin without immersion over there. If prices have not been mentioned before, you are entitled to not pay. It did happen to me several times and I refused and that was fine.
