I know an American who lived in CR. He's been in Pattaya for a few years now & loves it.
For me I think BKK is as close to perfect as it gets. I've looked into a lot of places all over the world. Singapore, though, in Geylang, is to my taste, even better in some ways. That was a hidden gem that my research and investigations unearthed. As the saying goes, seek & you will find.
The cost of the airfare was already mentioned. Hotel is a non factor with travelers such as myself who have given up there residence back in farang land or are renting it out.
Otherwise if airfare is 1000 USD and a 30 day hotel stay in BKK is 1200 more, that's 2200 USD. If the guy does only one P4 P gal a day at a savings of 200 USD over what he'd pay back in the USA, that's 6000 USD saved. Subtract the 2200 and he's essentially getting 3800 USD worth of free sex in LOS. Make that 5000 if the hotel cost is excluded. Like I've said before, I've gotten 6 or 7 figures of free poon value by regularly being in Asia over the years. So, yes, obviously the prices one pays back in the Western world or Far East or Middle East do matter when sex tourists are considering whether it will be worth it to make the trip or just stay home.
Prostitution illegal? Not. Search some old posts by Wolvenvaht the lawyer with the actual legal code translated into English.
I would agree with you about Geylang. I wish we had a brothel area like that in BKK. Fits my style to a tee. FLs and ST houses. Love it.
Solicitation is illegal here. That is why a "massage" is sold. I do look for changes in this given the current "government" and the changing status of women in this country.

In contrast, an elite escort in Miami, Florida charges US$2500 (and up) for 4 hours.
Another option here is thirty minutes with an attractive, ruthless stripper who makes gogo girls in Bangkok seem like sweet little girls. This local stripper will cost US$500 for 30 minutes of mechanical sex paid before the session starts, performed in a room that the club charges you US$125 to use; plus you will pay a US$20 tip to the doorman; and don't think this is optional. Finally after the session the girl will aggressively demand another US$100 tip. Failure to pay up risks creating a very unpleasant scene.
Be thankful for what you have.
If I were a billionaire I wouldn't put up with that shit. I'd rather use my hand and look at porn than pay an "attractive" bytch to abuse my sensibilities and make me pay for the privilege.
Yes, I'm thankful for what I have in Pattaya -- everything I want and plenty more and the cost is still reasonable. I'm sure that Mr. Goat doesn't realize how lucky he is to live in Thailand.

BTW, prostitution is illegal in Thailand. Yes, it is "better" here than in the US. But enjoy it because I fear it won't be for long.
OMB! How many times does it have to be repeated? Prostitution is NOT illegal in Thailand. Certain elements that go together with some forms of prostitution (but not prostitution itself) are punishable (many have only very low fines), such as soliciting on the street, creating a nuisance, pimping, under-age sex, . . .
And the "buyer" side of the business is totally legal, as young as you respect the age limits.

And that is despite it being twice as expensive all around and 25% as fun P4P wise as it used to be. I would rather swallow a pistol than live in the US again. Fundy Christians, militant feminists, right wing conservative nut jobs; no thanks! But, knowing the changes I have seen, I would not move to Thailand now if sex was my only interest. And truthfully most of my long term expat friends feel the same way. Most of us moved her for the chicks but we stay long term for other reasons. I am very grateful that I got to experience what I did. It was amazing. Not just Thailand but Cambo in its heyday.
And you know what? I won't put up with a lot of shit the gals here pull now days. I feel exactly as you stated in your first paragraph. That is why I partake far less now.
BTW, I used to love Pattaya as well. Was there at least once a month during my first 7 years here. During low season you could have shot a cannon down Sois 7 and 8 and not hit anyone. Girls aplenty and no dudes. When the Starbucks at Soi 13 opened we used to sit upstairs all afternoon shooting the shit. Rarely would there be anyone else up there. Pattaya is just too crowded these days, not to mention the unsavory demographics. I admire you for being able to live there.

But I have never seen or heard a conviction for "prostitution" in Thailand.
Glad to know that you still like BKK and Thailand despite all the changes since 1999, Goat. The majority of your reports have been so depressingly negative of late that it made me think you have become sour on the Land of Smiles. That would be a shame as I imagine we both agree that Thailand beats the USA hands down on many levels as a good place to live.
We're both Americans; we both can't stand the fundy Christians; militant feminists; right wing conservative nut jobs, and all the rest of it. I came to live here in Thailand to escape that and so did you. I can't think of a better country to live in taking all things into consideration right now than Thailand. No one on this forum has argued seriously that there are better countries to live in for mongering expats than Thailand when all things are considered such as cost of living, infrastructure, personal freedoms, safety, and availability of willing girls, and on and on.
Honestly, the only negative aspect I've noticed in my 7 years living here is that prices for P4 P have gone up significantly. Cost of living otherwise has remained about the same. In 2006 I could enjoy ST with a go-go stunner for 1000 baht; 2000 for LT. So yes, the price has doubled; it's gone from $30 US to $60 for sex with a beautiful woman; still a tremendous bargain IMHO.
There are just as many if not more girls working here today as ever. They keep coming to Pattaya by the busload. The go-go bars have lots of cuties. I strolled down a short stretch of Beach Road a few nights ago and spotted at least 10 young cuties looking for customers. Whether there are 100 or 10 all you really need is one and I can always find enough to satisfy my tastes.
Be honest, Goat. How many of your girls in 1999 were willing to rim and deep throat you PSE style as compared to today? Not that many I suspect. Maybe your expectations for having a good time with Thai girls is a bit too high.
BTW my condo is in Jomtien, which is far away from the crowds of unsavory characters you'll find in some areas of Pattaya.
I'm certain that in your 15 years living in Thailand you possess a wealth of information about the positive aspects of BKK which would benefit me and others on this forum far more than the negative stuff.
Tell us about the good stuff, Goat!

We used to windsurf Jomtien Beach back in the late 80's. Then the last year we went they had just started to build the first Condotell. I wonder what it looks like now? I have a house in Bali and will retire there soon.
Aloha.

Tell us about the good stuff, Goat!
I would say there are just as many gals in Pattaya now as there were then. BKK is a different story.
Overall cost of living, not counting P4 P is easily 100% more than in 99. Of course the baht was at 40+ then as well. So there is 25% and inflation has been mad really.
Personally of all the countries in the region that I have "hobbied" in, I must say that Indo provides the best overall gals. Looks, performance, etc. No shyness as with many Thai gals, voluptuous women, and very highly sexually charged. But, I could not live in Jakarta. BKK is a much better and more user friendly place to hang one's hat.
Um, well very few gals would rim, but most back in the "day" would do you like they were with a boyfriend they were very turned on by. They wanted to get off and have a good time. I really don't find that as much here.
Really, the P4 P scene gets little of my time and attention these days. I hit the oilies a few times a month and when I meet a friend out might hit the FL venues once a month, although I rarely partake from them. Food, socializing, the indie music scene, all get far more of my attention these days. But don't get me wrong, I am damn glad I can get laid whenever I want. I just really miss the fun times. It was this free for all party every night. Then the "social order" crackdown came in 02 and things started to change a bit.
What's great here? Food! Man, this has to be the greatest food city on the planet bar none. For those of you senior members out there, PM me when you are in town and I will take you to some amazing Thai places; well off the beaten path. The indie music scene is also quite fun. Start a band and you can get gigs!
Dude I hope that Soi 6 prices have not doubled. Twas my favorite street in Thailand.
And the Chinese dudes have only just started to come. I shudder to think what the bars will look like in 5 years. There are lots of these dudes. The ratio of guys to gals in their country is not so good.
While in China male to female ratio is poor, there is no shortage of working girls at all price levels in different sorts of venues. Service tends to be abysmal (due to Chinese grab-the-money-and-run mentality), but there is no shortage.
I don't see why single Chinese guys would come to Thailand for mongering. Shagging at home is almost certainly cheaper (if travel costs are included), and despite better service, I doubt the bottom-of-the-barrel Issan girl are really their cup of tea.
They might go for the Rachada soapies, but I doubt we're on the verge of a Chinese invasion on currently Farang-oriented naughty bars (Indians are a different matter). In fact, despite Mainland Chinese already being the #1 visitor group in Thailand, I can't recall ever running into a PRC monger in Thailand (the Chinese I did see were overseas / Malaysian / Taiwanese etc).
Of course, hard to know for sure what the future will bring, you might turn out correct in the end.
?.....BKK girls on average are better looking than Manila Pinays. The key words are "on average"; because there are some great looking girls in Manila if you are willing to pay up for them...
Natty,
Excellent FR as usual. I notice your on average note.
Someone once said that he had no use for averages. If you've got one foot in a bucket of boiling water and the other in a bucket of ice, he said, on average you should be feeling fine.
Or this one: Just because your left foot is in a bucket of ice water and your right foot is in a bucket of boiling water doesn't mean that, on average, your balls are comfortable (Luke Marusiak book).

With the current crackdown in China that seems to be lasting they might be here sooner than we think! Yikes.
Theres a few reasons why I don't think it will happen. And I live in China.
Firstly, Chinese tend to play with other Chinese. They think the dark Thais and Filipinas are beneath them and they just arent attracted to them. Taiwanese are happy with Filipinas but not mainland Chinese.
Second, they know Pattaya and Bangkok, but only when they are with large tour groups being taken from restaurant to shop to bus tour etc. They are comfortable doing that.
Third, language. They are scared of being ripped off and know they can't speak so well, yet.
Fourth Chinese men, however horny they are in China, just don't seem to be very horny outside China. If they travel they like to go with their own GF, in a tour group. They just haven't evolved to all male travel groups, yet.
Fifth, Chinese government regularly posts warnings about the dangers of going to other travels. Because two Chinese traders got kidnapped in Cotobato deeply South Philippines, the Chinese Min Foreign Affairs made an advisory to ALL Chinese not to travel. Same advisory after Thai coup. And many Chinese are wary of international travel anyways.
I had a GF here, wonderfully big boobs, she was 23 and had no passport. Her mom wouldn't let her get a passport because " other countries arent safe ".
I think all of us who monger in south west Asia are safe from hordes of Chinese for a while.
