Boy, is this place slow or what?

Athens used to have one of the best price / performance stripper club scene anywhere

Unfortunately, due to the efforts of the US ambassador's wife and some others, to make sure that the working ladies are not "exploited", there is no more lap dancing (on your lap!!) with full nudity as before

Still, the quality of the dancing girls in most Athens stripper clubs is very good, and prices are very reasonable.

(minimum spend is 5-10 euro for a drink, then the "dance card" is 10-15 euro if you want to get a private dance)

Girls will approach you and ask you for a dance/drink - but you just tell them "later honey" and they won't bother you too much.

Do not expect anything to happen afterwards - the girls are "policed" around the clock, you have to look elsewhere for more action.

The Russians/Ukrainians are usually excellent, there are good Moldovans, Romanians and some girls from Baltic states as well.

Bulgarians/Albanians means the place is downmarket

There are countless "bars" with lower quality girls, where you can get luckier - but things can be more complicated there

No more massage parlors unfortunately - police cracked down on them years ago

Brothels - cheap (25+ euro) and the quality can be suprisingly good, but you need to do some research! Girls rotate all the time.

Call service - 80 euros is the average price, quality varies, more on that later. A friend just bonked a great-looking Czech girl yesterday, she was on the cover page of a men's magazine.

Athens News selection is limited - and is pricey

The best is the Greek ads paper "Krisi Efkeria" - with over a dozen pages with similar ads. It's in Greek, but it's easy to figure out what it says - height, nationality and age is reported first, the rest you learn after you call

Internet search is not convenient, since you need to have Greek browser fonts (OK if you are in a netcafe in Greece)

Hotel, etc staff can assist!!! Almost all girls speak english, many times they answer the phone personally (freelancers)

The paper also has foreign language ads, but very rarely they have to do with escort services

Greek SIM cards for your mobile is 20 euros, mobile phone plus card 90-100 euros, many cheap prepaid fixed phone cards also available

Czech girl cannot be tracked down - every week offers new choices!!!!

Best brothel area is "Filis Street" in central Athens, north of Omonia sq.
The area looks weird, but visiting in daytime offers no surprises - once past the door, the brothels are well kept, the girls much better than what I've seen in most Euro countries and the prices low - starting from 25 euros for 20 min (plus you can do your deals with the girl, to occupy her free time)

Do not talk to anyone in the street who might approach you and offer any "services" - ripping off foreigners is a traditional local sport, only now it's done by Albanians, refugees from Russian Republics, etc

other comments - Taxi drivers are most likely family types and know nothng about brothels.

There are no "public service" brothels in North Athens or Paraliaki (coastal highway) - unless you know someone and get invited to something semi-private. Kolonaki sq is OK for visiting the cafes, it's where the glitzy people kill their time, away from the tourist traps, like Plaka. There aren't any massage parlors anymore. Feel free to talk to the girls - most would be glad to visit you in your hotel room (without telling anyone) for a realistic fee

Thank you for your information, but I don't believe that someone should bother with filis str.

It's the RLD of Athens but the services are below average. The girls are 5-6 for the appereance and 4-5 for the service. They rush you to finish since they have to take the next customer and the next and the next and so on.

But the biggest problem is that they deny to foreigners (not all houses but most of them).

So we are left with the only solution of ads from newspapers.

The only good thing I have found in the Greek scene is the hotels where you can go if you don't want to bring your girl home. Fairly cheap 15-30 euro/3 hour, most of them clean and they don't ask for documentations.

Well, you sure need some patience and have to be ready to spend some time looking around

All I can say is that I know some "experts" who have been *****mongering for over 15 years - and in the end, Filis St is still the place they end up for "gratification"

They know best, since they also get phonecalls from the madams (they are in the "preferred client" list) and get advance notice of new arrivals.

But even the "experts" sometimes have to do some brothel hopping and visit 5-6 places in Filis St before they find the quality they want

There are brothels in other areas, but it's complicated even for the locals

BTW, it is obvious that someone who is a 9 or 10 won't work for 20-30 euro, they'll do call-in service for 80+ euro

Door control - brothels used to have open doors, with the influx of Albanians and other refugees, things got less friendly - but unless you look like someone who may be washing car windshields for 1 euro during traffic jams, there shouldn't be any problems (brothels owners also don't appreciate customers with torn jeans, t-shirts, etc - try to look GAP casual)

Let me get to the point. I have done a lot of traveling around US, Mexico, and Europe. Athens is a great place for cheap sex. Yes there are certain houses that would not speak english and even one place has a note saying Greek only. I found that if you just sit down with everyone else that comes in, and when the girl comes out, not to say anything. If you like and want to go into the room just hand the door person a 20 Euro. Most times it is 15 or 20 euros. If it is 15 they will even give you change. I did not make it to filis st untill my last night and missed all the action because they closed the door at midnight on a Saturday. I found a great place by St James Hotel. It is in the vicinty of the national theater. A tourist map should have the hotel on it. There is a varity of everything, from greek to dutch. The Dutch girl was very beautiful and even spoke english. You will not get a GF experience, but for 20 euro it is good. I found that older or less then atractive girls offer a better service and even had a long talk with a tall older blonde from germany. Service was nice and not rushed at all. She even pretended to enjoy it.

I also checked out a few strip clubs/bars. I found that the best place to go is by the coast where you catch the ferries. If you go to gate 9E and make a left there are several in that area. I tried only one. It was the one with an asia name, (there are few so remembering the name is hard now). Typical europe bar, get escorted in, offered a drink, then the girls start asking you to buy them a drink. I alway turn this down because I can found out all the information I need in the first 5 minutes and it is free. The girls turned me down for a private room, but on the way out, the door man offered me a girl for 1 hour for 100 euros. Not sure what I would have gotten but did not want to spend that much money and then get ripped off. It sounded like a good offer.

The area around the "National Theater", just south of Omonia Sq is not the best one for a night walk - the place is infested with all kinds of illegal refugees.

There are several cheap brothels in the area, it is the southern edge of the infamous Metaxourgio district,

Which looks like it was bombed during WW II and left as is. Brothels are designated by a traditional "red light" - or watch for people queing outside derelict houses.
The nastiest brothels are along the road that connects the Railroad Teminal and Karaiskaki Sq

Filis St is in a residential area, less adventurous (above A2, outside the map)

The areas to the left of the Patission-Athinas axis through Omonia Sq, should really be avoided - there is nothing of interest there

Syngrou Ave (E1) is leading to the coast (and harbor), many big hotels, about 8-10 strip clubs and many bars/clubs, plus one of the best transvestite street scenes anywhere

Pireas -- it's not the "coast", but the shitty harbor - the (OK for swimming) coast starts on the left side of Syngrou Ave, with the coastal highway running for over 40 Km to cape Sounion

As for the Pireas bars mentioned - I wouldn't go there if they paid me! The girls are really nasty, too ugly to even work in brothels! For sailors only. Avoid like the plague.

For daylight/evening non-***** related tourism:

Center - stick to the B3/C3 area and visit the usual tourist traps (Monastiraki, Acropolis, Plaka) but also Kolonaki Sq and the nearby streets, for the modern face of the city
Sintagma Sq should be your "hub"

Coastal area - visit Glifada (for shopping and eating out) and the Kavouri area (the"Athens Riviera")

The club scene moves to the coast when the weather gets really warm btw - there is one strip club ("Princess") near the old Airport in Glifada.

To the north of the city, make sure you visit the Kifisia/Kefalari area. A short distance to the west, right on the "National Highway", are two good strip clubs, "Rasputin" and "Rich and Famous", but you need a car/taxi to visit.

Most tourists unfortunately never get to see the best places of greater Athens

I visited the newest strip club, "Rich and Famous", in the north of Athens tonight - I met some shapely and friendly Lithuanians, Ukrainians, Russians and even a Kyrgiztan girl - as usual, 10 euro/drink (it's like a cover charge, can't avoid it), 12 euro for lap dance
There is a 50 euro deal for a 10 min "private room" performance, but I'd rather do 2-3 Filis St visits instead

BTW - "Greek only" means no Albanians or other illegals allowed Tourists are always welcomed!

Lately, there are quite a few western Euro girls working in brothels, I heard about a couple from Belgium and some from Spain.

Maybe they are getting ready for the Olympics in August - news reports claim over 20,000 *****s will invade Athens to "service" the Olympics 2004 visitors.

I don't think Athens is ready for so many *****s - or tourists for that matter. Many Greeks I know have already booked trips to the islands or foreign destinations - they plan to stay as far away from the Olympics and Athens as possible during August!

BTW, Athens is traditionally a deserted place between August 10 and 25 - everyone goes to the islands.

If you come for the Olympics and find few (true) locals, you'll know why.

I visited Athens on business for several days in Sept 2003. I don't claim to know much about the scene and would defer to local guys, but here are my impressions. I found some legal brothels near Omonia Square. A typical starting point is the corner of Kolonou and Leonidou, and radiating out from there. I checked out about 10 of these places. In each house the setup was similar: usually a grim old woman would greet the customers in a waiting room. After a few minutes, during which several morose customers would collect in the room, a young woman would appear, bare breasted and in bikini pants, and smile a forced smile. In each of the places I visited there was only one young woman and her arrival was strangely like a cue for all the men to get up and leave. I suppose someone eventually purchases, but I never saw anyone do so and the whole process seemed very inefficient -- 10 minutes waiting to view one girl. And the girls were nothing special. The brothel scene was too dreary for me.

Others have posted that you can try the Athens Times (English) or other newspapers with escort ads. I did not try it but thought I'd mention the possibility.

I checked out 6 strip clubs (forget their names). Some were on Leoforos Syngrou (a big street that runs towards the coast) and others were near the coast. As far as I could tell there was no sex in these bars, nor would the girls go out. I concluded this from my observations and from asking a few girls. Again, the local experts might know better. But the girls were beautiful and gave good lap dances (which I don't consider to be "sex"). They were good as most lapdance bars in the USA.

Overall Athens is a very amusing city. The nightlife (clubs and restaurants) was great. Greeks know how to party. Note, the nightlife runs very late, e.g. some clubs start at about midnight.

Hi there. I am due to make my first trip to Athens in late April. I am considering booking into the Amaryllis inn hotel nr Omonia. They allow guests for an extra fee I believe. The main question I wanted to ask is - surely there must be somwhere u can pick up cheap street girls during the daytime and take them back to the hotel, no matter how grim/dodgy/druggie they are? I am looking for this type of info and would appreciate it.

Also, the Greek translation of asking for oral sex (giving and receiving) and anal sex would be useful.

There are no "street girls" - they'll be arrested on the spot

These hotels around Omonia are a little grim too!

A good option are hotels in the coastal highway, near the old airport - they are not near the center, but they are modern and can be realtively inexpensive - plus they are next to the beach!

The strange thing about Athens is that there are few major modern hotels downtown - there are many small hotels, especially in the touristy Plaka area, which can be cheap and cheerful.

Avoid anything near Omonia Sq. The better brothels are in Filis St, as mentoned before.

Everyone allows guests - unless you ask! (at which point, they'll say they don't)

When you visit the licenced brothels, maybe you can convince the girl to meet you when she is not working. (95% speak english, and so do most of the population, Greece is far better in this respect than "major" countries like France or Germany - btw over 90% of the hos are foreign, so greek words won't help much)

Greek law in fact regulates brothel personell - in addition to the mama (usually an Greek ex-ho) there is usually also an elderly guy that does the cleaning - this is considered a typical job for "elderly homosexuals" (no provision for "elderly lesbians", I am afraid)

You ask the girl (who can be a 1.80m tall 19 yo ex-model from Moldavia or Kazakhstan, if you are lucky) when she has hours off, and offer to take her out for coffee etc

She'll understand 100% what you want - since brothels are very cheap (15-25 euros, but prices will be going up as the Olympics approach) you can have some interesting company for not much more

Like I said, the guality of the girls in the brothels can be suprisingly good, but it depends on your luck, since the girls rotate a lot

You can tell how good the brothel is by the guests - if they let any non-European looking people in, it's a sign that the quality of the girls will be suspect.

The mama has the right to refuse entrance to anyone she doesn't like (Albanians, Asians, anyone dark-looking, not properly dressed westerners, etc)

The better girls have their own apartments or can come to your own place, the fee is usually 80 euro for an hour

if you don't like the girl, give her 10 euro for her taxi and send her away.

Forget about sex with the lap dancing girls, 500+ others asked the same question and got nowhere

You might have better ho hunting luck in Thessaloniki, in northern Greece - there is also a place 20 km drom the Greek/Bulgarian border which is supposed to be a cheap sex heaven.

Massage parlors were very popular 5-6 years ago, but there was a heavy crackdown after some episodes with teenage prostitutes-maybe some illegal places still operate today, but even the "specialists" have a hard time finding them

The 1994-1999 period was the "gold age" for hoing in Athens and Greece in general - with supply exceeding demand, low prices and excellent quality.

Then there were Shengen visa problems, crackdown due to some enforced prostitution episodes, etc

Nowdays the dancing girls won't even take out their bottom piece during the lap dance
(in the past they could even rub their thing on your face, if you bought them a few "dance cards" (10-12 Euro each) - "good" customers were allowed to "use" their fingers too)

One Moldovan girl I know got so "relaxed", she gained 20 pounds - she is still the most popular dancer in her club.

Not to mention almost all are married to locals, usually well-to-do.

As far as lap dancing goes, the quality of the dancers and the prices are still the best in the European Union - plus the dance clubs are 100% safe.

I once visited a Milan club, and it felt like the 3d world - but with Tokyo-like prices.

bottom line - your 15-25 Euros for 15 min will get you what you expect (more if you are really lucky and persistent)

Better to spend 80 E for a full hour in your own place (or her place) plus you can do deals (twice the time for 30% more, etc)

Buy fewer souvenirs!
