A-Town is still in operation down in Kunsan. I was station there, from 83-87, before I got out of the Air Force, than the prices were still $12-$20 a night, for LT. Also back than, brothel type house were $6-$12. The Exchange rate than was 950 to $1. You could party all night with $30. Things have change alot. The changes started happen about the time of the 88 games in Seoul. They real start to change fast in the mid-90s.

If you have not been there since the late 70's, it is not the country you remember at all. I was in the military in Korea from 83-87, and than worked in a business in Seoul from 87-94. I get to Korea, 4 times a year with business still and you can see the changes with every visit. When I look back to 83, when I got to Korea to today, the country has change 100 fold.

It is great to see some of the change, but not the other changes. The night life, in Korea is many times more expenese now. When I left in 94, girl drinks were 4000, now they are 20000, a beer was 2000, now they are 5000. In 83 the girl drinks were 1200, and a beer was 600. Than, you could drive from one end of Seoul to the other in about hour, now that same distance will take you 3 to 4 hour during the day because of traffic. Air is very, very bad in Seoul everyday, probaby worst than L.A. in the middle of Summer.

The changes are great in some ways and bad in others. If you are going to Korea for the Adult fun from old, it is still there in different way, but it is a new type of game today. Wanted to check out an old haunt recently so went to the Turkey Bath at the New Hilltop Hotel. Had good successes in the past there and with the reported change in ownership at Dynasty and poor service at Green Grass, needed to check out some alternatives.

Your experience seems fascinating. You're lucky enough to experience Korea before Korea made the rapid economic expansion. You're right, Korea has changed quite a lot since the 70s. S. Korea was actually poorer than North Korea back then for god's sake. Now it rivals some western european economies. I know that their GDP per capita has surpassed that of Spain and Ireland. As far as I know, most of the places I've been primarily serve Koreans, with a few foreigners thrown in. For the record, I've been relatively satisfied with the spots I've been to, with a few exceptions. I'd be very interested, however, to know of some more places. Yaoming, perhaps you could let me know of some places your Korean friends frequent? Hotel Tiffany and Hotel Sunshine both wouldn't take me without a Korean (or quoted outrageous prices!) Maybe these places are a good bet?

Don't know of any but there are places in Chongyecheon (near Tongdaemun Market) that sell/rent hardcore porn. (Note: there was a recent article in the Asian edition of Time about TDC, and it caused a bit of a stir in korea, but my last trip to TDC a few days ago proved that the clubs are still open--guess since local girls weren't involved the koreans really don't care much.) There are two main strips; outside CP Casey's main gate there over 50 clubs, and about a five minute walk from CP Hovey's gate there are about 15 clubs. I prefer CP Hovey as the area, known to the Americans as Tokori, and to the koreans as Gwang-ahm-dong, is a bit more laid back than CP Casey's front gate. Almost all the girls are Filipinas and Russians--sadly there rarely any koreans around. Some clubs specialize in one or the other, but some clubs offer both. Most mamasans (aka ah-ju-ma) have a firm control of the place, and if you're not buying lady drinks at $10 (all clubs price in dollars, and you get no foreign exchange advantage by using korean won) the girls may move on if there are other customers. Many clubs have sex shows on Fri and Sat nights. On-premise short times of 30 minutes for $60 are on offer at several. You may be able to bargain, but you have to haggle with the mamasan, not the girl. Really anything goes with the Filipinas. I don't fancy Russians so I can't give an account of their performance. I have been in the Hard Rock many times on my visits to Seoul, I would say there is no freelancer working at the Hard Rock. You can get lucky with the girls hangout there, for a freebie for the night. But for working girls I do not think there are any. But it is a great place to hangout and have some fun!
