I agree. When I say it's not cheap I by no means think it's expensive. What I mean is that it's not low end, it's not bargain basement, it's not Khao San Road. And I pray that Giotto keeps it that way.

It represents great value. I just came from a 5 star hotel in Tokyo, and I'm about the check out and go to Singapore to stay at Shangri La. I'm also staying at Wynn in Macau and Langham Place and possibly the Pen in HK all on this one trip. And I will feel ripped off at every one of them after staying at Giottos.

There's nothing wrong with them really. I will continue to stay in 5 star hotels. I just wish there were more places like Giotto's in the world. And that's saying something, because I'm a typical whiny spoiled American tourist type.

And feel free to make his life hell while you're here. From what I've seen his life is too perfect and could use some chaos. After seeing his place, and meeting his wife, I have no sympathy for the man. Also Guido told me it's new hotel policy that anytime any guest needs anything late at night, we're to go knock on Giotto's door and wake him up. Whether it's a bottle of water or anything, no matter how trivial. It's part of the new hospitality scheme. So make use of it.

When I was arranging the visas to Europe for my students this past summer, my naiive little darlings were just stunned beyond belief at the country "girls" (some quite long in the tooth, actually) in their tawdry street clothes and stilletto heals lining up with they're new hubbies to get the visa for his home country. They simply couldn't understand why any Farang would end up with such a girl. I have to say, I was hard-pressed to explain it to them.

BTW, the return rate of these girls is incredibly high. Like fish out of water, they simply can't survive for long outside their own milieu. Without a ready supply of somtam and sticky rice they wither and die on the vine.

I will be staying in Livingstone's. This is my first visit to thailand and I am quite excited. I will be there for a total of 8 days. But in between my stay in BKK I would like to go elsewhere. If my first visit to thailand is just mongering I would feel a bit empty. I need to see the sights to feel completely satisfied and more appreciative of the country.

So other than the sights of BKK I plan to spend 4 days in either Koh Samui or Pattaya. Which do forummers recommend? Is mongering in Pattaya too good to miss? Are the beaches and scenery at Koh Samui a must for a first time tourist to Thailand and the mongering nothing to sniff at? It is unlikely I will be back soon and this could be my first and last trip.

I would say 1000+ tip. So sure 1200 is average. It seems here to go less than 1000 is sort of demeaning and cheap but if its a girl your friends with anything can be negoitiated.
Rather than focus on rate i would like to bring the question of good service up. First what defines bad sex:

Bad Sex can be defined as:
1. Kisses with neither little or no lip movement nor any tongue.
2. Gives a hand job in a beating manner without concern for giving a good sensation.
3. Gives oral sex with little or no saliva resulting in no sensation.
4. Contorts body in ways not conducive to functional intercourse.

Well the trick is get in, and squeeze a puppy a.s.a.p. on husbands home turf. That may bring visiting rights. I have seen girls standing at the visa application counter coming straight from night shift. Running makeup, hair un-done, apparently hung over. Hilarious really. Also interesting is how they are treated by the embassy staff. Rough, to say the lest.

I feel actually sorry for the 'normal' girls/women applying for visas. Fascinating too how the tarts hubby is completely indifferent to his wife's looks and state.
