Riga Useful Tips

Riga public transport system is well developed and simple to use. You can take
a ride on tram, trolley-bus or bus. All these start running from 5.30 am and
finish around midnight . During the night some trams and trolley-buses run every hour.

There are 64 bus routes, 10 tram routes and 20 trolleybus routes in Riga.

Passengers buy tickets from conductor on board.

Ticket price - 20 santims (appr. 0.30 EUR) per ride. For children up to 7 years
tickets are free of charge.

Express Bus ticket costs 25 santims

Taxibus

Taxivans running along a certain route cost 25 - 30 santims per ride, at night ( 23.00 -02.00) price is 30 - 40 santims. Taxibus stops are located close to Central Sation and Orthodox Cathedral and in front of Central Post Office. Tickets are bought from the drivers.

Taxi.

Regular fee is 30 santims/km during the day, and 40 santims/km between 22:00 – 06:00.

The embarkation charge is 40/60 santims. All licensed cabs will have special
yellow license plates and a meter. Taxis can almost always be found, day or night,
in front of hotels, airport, Railway Station, near the Opera House and on Strelnieku Laukums.

The quickest way to catch a taxi is to flag one down.

TELEPHONES

In you need to make a phone call, you should purchase a Lattelekom phone card,
that is available in newspaper kiosks, post offices and department stores.

While you are in Latvia you can use your mobile phone like you do in your home country.

Currency and credit cards

Currency: Latvian currency is Lat (1 Lat = 100 santims). There are coins of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 santims, and 1 and 2 Lats.

The paper notes are 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 500 Lats.

Currency exchange: The banking system is well developed. There are numerous bureaux of exchange in hotels, shops, post offices and train stations.

Most close at 19.00, but some in Riga center work 24 hours.

Credit cards: EUROCARD, MASTERCARD, VISA, AMERICAN EXPRESS are accepted by all banks, hotels, most of restaurants and shops. Check with each credit card company for details on merchant acceptability and other available services. There are numerous cash machines in Riga.

Dear All,

I looked at the messages for Riga, but I didn't see any mentione as to whether the hotels are girl friendly or not, and if yes do you have to pay anything extra or not.

Btw, I really love finding all this information fromall these contributions to the forum - Thanks everybody!

I have been several times in Riga during the last 10 years. I stayed in differents hotels (from 3 to 5 stars). I never had problem to bring a girl back to my room BUT it happened to me a few times that I had to pay a fee to the security guy waiting in the lobby. The fee was always 10 lats. It depends on the hotel as well as the staff on duty!

Anyone has an experience in Dolls club?What about managers there?

We - a friend from Russia will be my companion - are going
to stay in a private appartment in old Riga.

There's plenty of street action to be had and it is 10 times better than agency girls!!

Around McDonalds on Kalku iela opposite Hotel de Rome, down Kalku to Skunu Iela, around by Cathedral and the side streets off Cathedral. They go around the block so I wait in McDonalds instead of walking around after them!! (Lazy sod!!)

Also if you're looking for daytime action, go to the 24 hour bar at Jana Asara Iela, sit, relax and have a beer or 2 or 3 or 4 or 5, and you will see girls walking around the block or they will come over from the park to you. It's pretty safe around there but do not look too wealthy!! Jeans, t-shirt, jumper etc.

Also in the area are Tallinas Iela, Artillerijas and Caka Iela, this is usually their beat.
They seem to disappear around 7 p.m. and then a new lot are on the streets after 10.00 p.m.

There's a Russian girl, on the beat at Jana Isara, daytimes until 4.30 p.m., about 20 y.o. around 5'2", black shoulder length hair, usually wears black coat, boots, mini-skirt, she is really up for anything so long as it's safe, even get bbbj!! 15 lats/hour.

Some of the girls in the park will do 3-some for 10Ls/hr. or alone in your apartment for 5Ls for 30 mins! And are very open to offers!!

I'm enjoying myself here but have been disappointed by lack of quality of Pro's/Agency Girls, although they look stunning it's like being with a dog who has gaulstones, most of them are just bored out of their skull, pissed off, and unenthuastic ( although there are exceptions).

The medium priced and upmarket hotels are less girl friendly but this is more relaxed after 1.00 a.m. when things have quietened down a bit, but usually the security guy will expect something!!

The best way is to go for a drink or two at the bar first and go from there to your room rather than walking in off the street trying to go straight to your room.

The ownership is Moscow based, and their game is maximum pay for average fun. It's a place for Russian Heavies to show their friends how much cash they can burn. The managers' there are average, but some of the girls can be aggressive in running up a tab while teasing you, especially if you don't know the territory.

For a bit more amateur action, go around the corner to the (former-Pepsi) Forums. The entrance is across from Coffee Nation - just inward from McDonalds on Kalku iela. You'll see touts on Thur-Sun nites offering entrance tickets. Forums can be hit or miss, anything from amateur university students to girls fresh in from the country side to skilled hustlers.

WORD OF CAUTION:

Watch your wallet if you pick anyone up from there; Since by definition - the amateurs are controlled by no one, and often the girls in from the country side don't understand that ripping off the customer is just bad for business. There have also been a few incidents of druggings when Mongers head off with 2 or more girls working in tandem to NON-HOTEL locations.

First post for me!

I'm going to Riga in early November with a group of 7 other guys. 3 of us are up for some fun if you know what I mean. Can you please advise on best approach ie bars, nightclubs, streets etc. I read on another forum that the prices are going up due to stupid people spoiling it for others and paying over the top prices. What should we expect to pay for one girl, two girls together etc? I also read somewhere that if you buy two hours then the third is free. Is this true? If I pick up a girl in a club should we go to her place or my hotel? Finally I've read lots of comments on other forums about ladylux.lv anyone exxperience of this because the girls look fantastic on there although I have also read that they look nothing like that! Any other sites where I can see the girls beforehand?

I rang quite a few numbers from Ladylux site, a lot of them won't even answer the phone, some of them say they speak English but it's pretty difficult understanding them, I met 2 from Ladylux and they were not as advertised and were not really as expected, one of them had a timer in her bag which bleeped every 15 mins and when the hour was up she just stopped everything, got up, dressed and left!!

Anyway I met a few on the street that were much nicer and hornier! I found that waiting around was the better option for me instead of walking around the streets.
