Does this Desady Plus run from the same TB area as Cotisse? I am leary of taking that trip with other companies as so many are so uncomfortable and unreliable. How is their service? Having said that do they also go to Diego? The Ambanja-Diego ride has got to be one of the worst on the island. Did it the other direction 2 years ago with 2 others in a 4 x 4 for 40 Euro each and it was some of the best money I ever spent!

It was ok, the buses were fine but still on the cramped model but at least they did not overload with people, everyone had one seat available. They travel in group of 3 or 4 buses together, for safety against bandits and accident. I left tana 1 pm and arrived Ambanja 10 am, then bus to Ankify, then boat to Nosy Be. Expect a 24 door to door, pretty tiring I'd say. If I had to do it again, I'd break it in Majunga since it's halfway on the path.

I also did Ankify Diego, shitty road for sure but took from 9 am to 5 pm, honest compared to the other trip above!

SE.[/QUOTE]Yes the departure is near Cotisse in Tana. Besady plus is the only company which runs Tana to Nosy Be nonstop. Ask the Taxi drivers they know. Its reliable and the price is all in including the bateau rapide from Ankify. My mate used it a month ago. Its a long trip but bearable if you can sleep in the bus. Don't expect the same level of comfort as cotisse. They're Top notch.The road from Ambanja to Diego is more or less ok. But in the rainy season forget it. I saw three swept away bridges. The riverbeds are dry now. But in a month from now the road is liable to be blocked. Maybe in April it ll be open again. DO NOT use UTA. They stop at every hut and pile people in. Thats why it took so long. There is KOFIFI and KOFMAD they run direct Sprinter Busses from Ambanja to DIEGO and vice versa. I'll use KOFMAD next week from Ambanja to Mahajunga. From Mahajunga to Tana you can ride in style with Cotisse VIP. Thats my plan.

By all means use 4 x4. That was my intention. But couldn't get anything at short notice. The worst road where there is only 4 x4's running is Ambilobe to Vohemar.

So I've been in Tamatave long enough to report some good info.

Daytime.

Not much to do besides eating, going to beach or shopping in market / bazar / shops. The sun is hot but spending time around could give the chance to find non pros around the city. If you go time, go for it. Badoo is a good app for daytime online hookup. Hotel Sharon has a pool that can be accessed paying 7 k ariary, nice deal.

Afternoon.

La Terrasse is a good spot, free WiFi and power plugs at every table. They don't pressure you to order all the time, so you can spend the afternoon there. Some pro are always present in there, food is good too. Around dinner time more pros will come, along with customers eating and drinking.

Early evening.

La Terrasse again, and when you see all the ladies moving, they go to Taxi Be just 100 meters away. Follow them as it means it's the right time to go.
