I agree, one can get lucky at the outdoor little street bar set ups. I met a gem at one last year right outside of soi cowboy. I wasn't about to bar fine an overpriced hottie in the gogo (just went in to look and have some drinks). After checking 3-4 gogos I left to go by soi 11 and I ran into a pretty and sexy lady at one of the little bars right between soi cowboy and sukhumvit. Small talk was good. That led to a few rounds of drinks and off we went to my hotel for 1500 LT (and 300 barfine). The next afternoon I told her to come back again. She went to change and came back a few hours later. We agreed on no barfine for the second day, only the donation for her (it was her sisters mobile bar). 2nd day was just as good as the first. Lost contact with this one afterwards. I guess she went back to the farm.

I stayed at the Horizon Beach Resort in Patong, Phuket. The island is nice w / some spectacular sightseeing. Patong is full of tourist families (wall to wall people) and p4p is a small part of the scene.

If you like cbjs and no GFE w / high prices then you'll like Patong.

Karon Beach was the best thing about Patong IMO. I'll put a TR in the Phuket section soon. A few pics of Karon Beach and one pic near Ko Phi Phi.

Oh, if you want to see the current destruction of these beautiful locales just take a day tour to Bamboo Island, Ko Phi Phi. The boat operators are a dropping a thousand achors a day on these delicate fish habitats and guess what? No fish. The tour was not an enjoyable day for me, what a shame.

Soi is the Thai word for "side-street" or "alley". Only the main streets have proper names and the streets more or less perpendicular to this main street are numbered "Soi 1", "Soi 3', "Soi 5", . . . on one side and "Soi 2", "Soi 4", "Soi 6", . . . on the other side. To make it totally easy on you, some have both a proper name and (one or more) "Soi" numbers. Yes, This is Thailand (aka "TIT")

Google maps is quite good. Your hotel in Bangkok will probably have a free map for you too. Many bookshops sell Bangkok street maps. Many years ago I bought one that has a plastic cover. Very handy when it rains! Now I just download an updated map for my hand-held GPS.

It's Bangkok. The official name is "Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit" and Thai people will shorten that to "Krung Thep" or "City of Angels". Bangkok means "Garden of Wild Plums". I think both names are very well chosen! (wink wink).

Perhaps 100 or 200 USD only. Crisp new 100 USD bills get you better rates than old crumpled small bills.

For a newbie it can be quite overwhelming and I suggest you first try Soi Cowboy which is somewhat more "friendly" and has only a limited number of LB's (unless you go into the "Cock-a-too" bar) prowling around. Suzi Wong is a good start. The level of hustling is minimal. As from 10 PM there are nude shows and there are all types of girls. If you're in for a LT experience, aim for about 3000 to 3500 baht. They will "smell" you are new, so they will start higher. Just smile and stand your ground.

I may be green on this forum but I have experience on the USA board. I have RTFF and getting prepared is exactly what I'm doing. I just did not get some of the lingo and had to make a post on it, so I did. The abbreviations will drown a newbie on this board but I understand its a work in progress, I get it.
