I would have advised the guy to try Google search first up to find out very basic things like "what is a Soi?" Google is always your friend. Summary report of my first Bangkok visit. I'm on a limited budget and will be traveling for another five weeks, so I didn't try quite as much as I would have on a shorter vacation.

Day 1.

Happy with that, but with the dollar surging hopefully I can do better in the coming days and weeks. Stay away from the bank change booths they seem to be in the 32.45 B to 32.55 B range.

My worry was also phoney bills as I was to get 1 k euros exchanged so a hundred or two hundred baht didn't really matter and I got money exchanged at Superrich (Green) and got a rate of 40.70 which was really good.

Landed at Don Mueang airport after a grueling 8 hour total flight time with 2 hour changeover between both flights in Singapore (wherein even the immigration officer had looked at me surprised whether I will make the next flight and has asked me to run). Paid 300 baht entry charge and got into Shock around 11.45 pm. This place was really big.took few minute to scope the layout. Walked upto the bar. Place was filled with Indians and few black guys. Could spot the occasional white guy. Looked like people had come to party in groups. With a drink in my hand I could see majority of the gals were CIS. Few blacks and thai gals. Seemed like a predominant CIS gal club. Girls on average were 5. Not too great. I started the merry go around the stage. Big one where girls were taking turns dancing. Some with guys. I checked and it was just some time left for me to catch breakfast at the club. Went on had a decent bite. Back to room to action out the plan for the day. Had a lot of time on my hand hence walked across the FOB to get a foot massage. Really amazing experience for 250 baht an hour with 50 baht. Same thing costs 40 SGD in Singapore. Walked upto the local foodspot at entrance of Insanity disco. Light lunch with Mango smoothie. 200 baht I thin. Pretty decent food. Back to hotel for some lazing around in the pool or tub either one is ok for me. Having to choose between Eden and oily I decided to for latter basis of my experience the earlier day.

I crossed over the road into Nana plaza and continued my walk to scope out the street. Saw the entrance to NEP. Lot of people walking in. Place seemed to be live with loud music playing from different bars. I continue on. Spot Rajah Hotel on the right. Needed to check I think so I crossed the road and walked toward the hotel. As soon as I reached one guy approached me saying. Want Russians. I said to myself what was I thinking. I turned back and walked down the road away from NEP. Few massage parlours down the road. Few beer bars with pool tables and girls sitting lonely on chairs or with men staring on the road. What is the modus operandi of the girls who are alone. Do they approach you. Can we approach them. I reached. Paid the 200 baht entry fee .20 baht in the tip box on request from the sweet counter girl. Got in. Place was as big as Shock but had a small dance area in the center compared to the dance stage in shock. Two small podiums (drums) were kept at each corner on left near the bar area with one girl dancing on each. Got myself a JD cola from the bar and took a table. Place was almost empty. Had to be. It was a Monday. How could I forget that. Took a walk across the place. Not much available. Few options but not worth considering. Got myself back and nursed my drink. In the meantime the girls dancing on the drums were swapping each other in 7/10 minute interval. I was sitting close to one of these podium. As soon as the girl stepped down she smiled at me and came to me. She was stinking of beer and tequila. Asked me directly if I could buy her a drink. The girl came over and she wanted me to buy some shots for her. I had enough and said I don't want to. She also excused herself to the toilet. I was thankful and decided to go back to the hotel. I walked out crossed the FOB and got down in front of Thermae thinking whether I should go in or not. Lot of LBs were standing. I decided to just get back to the hotel and rest. I will return to Insantiy during a better day of the week in my next trip.

Till this time I was confident that I will manage to avoid any cons or free drinks but these girls had really pulled a fast one on me. Advice to other newbie mongers like me coming to Bangkok. Beware.
