The 180 day rule is not a new law by the law. Only the law related to accessible income has been altered and as another poster said, the costs of what you are doing may even be higher than what you think you might have to pay in tax if you stayed here for 180 days this year. Don't forget, your country most likely has a DTA with Thailand. Therefore, just because one would be a good boy and file, that does not mean they would need to pay. That would depend on many factors. Why are you worries about this 180 days now? It's not new. Did you worry two years ago? I will be in MM next week if you are around and want to have a chat. Which meant that when I landed in Suvarnabhumi, I did an international transit, and never went through Immigration. Interestingly, Airport Information told me that it was impossible, but I had my carry-on, and a boarding pass in hand, so I ignored them and went through Transit security and to the gate, where I met the lady.

What I don't know is whether the new regulations will be enforced, but I won't take a chance, and will limit my time in Thailand this year. Next year, I will see if the regulations are enforced.

Probably the enforcement mechanism would be visa renewal, so I will know sometime after next April if Farang visa holders are required to present a tax return to renew their visa.

One more thing about Thai income tax. I do not want to be enrolled in the Thai tax system. Once I file a return, anyone in the Revenue Department can claim I made an error and demand money from me. There is no defense, and they ultimately have the power to imprison.
