It may be more now. That comes to what, about $13/ hour? So, about 50% of the working population would, indeed, like a $15/ hour job. A lot depends on where you, personally, are an employer. LA or SD, for instance, bears no resemblance to much of the rest of the country. Everything is very skewed.

I, too, rarely see Mexicans begging on the streets of California. Many have a very strong work ethic. That doesn't justify their breaking immigration law. But that is honest work. But my point was that any work at $15 an hour is better, from a societal standpoint, than sitting on your ass looking for handouts.

No, it's NOT illegal to go to other countries and purchase sex from consenting adults in countries where that is legal. It's illegal to go to other countries for kiddy-fiddling. No, I don't "buy American" when it comes to that.

Meaning, "shopping" according to local age limits (_above_ or _below_ 18), public whipping of adulterers, death penalty to drug mules, legal DUI, imprisonment for insulting the local king, legal or illegal smoking of various herbs. It's all none of your homeland laws' business.

If you disagree to this, you are doing your country a pretty bad favor. It means you are happy to let citizens of other countries live by their own laws on your home turf. Or, you embrace double standards, which of course is just fine, as long as nobody else does. Right?

Most legal systems allow for *their* legal system (or at least certain parts of it) to be exported on the back of their citizens. You carry (some part of) your legal system with you wherever you go.

But you will also be subject to the local legal system of the place you go to and the final system that applies to you is a complicated combination of both.

Most of the time it means that restrictions from both systems will apply together and it is safe to take that into account when you travel.

The relevant penal code will specify the extent of application of the law beyond the shores of the home jurisdiction. But if you have been convicted in another jurisdiction (and served time), it is unlikely that the penal code in your home jurisdiction will prosecute you all over again for the same crime. But I think all this legal talk (re customs / immigration) is not leading anywhere and for lack of any actual FRs this seems to have become an endless discussion IMHO. :)

If the foreign country also prohibits the practice, bribing a governmental official in a foreign country represents a violation both of the law of the foreign country and that of the United States.

But I agree we need more FR's and fewer legal analyses here. I'll try to be good going forward.

There may be historical reasons of colonialism, authoritarianism, bad government and poverty for some of this but what most of us see is the astonishing and savage brutality of Islam all over the Middle East, in Thailand, in the Philippines and terrorist attacks all over the world. This and the intolerance against women and people of other faiths and those who criticize Islam or Mohammed is incredibly alarming. And yes, as some like Ben Affleck will say this may be a relatively a small pct of the Muslims, but this has been going on for years now and I have yet to see any movement by the supposed moderates to put a stop to this. I have yet to see but a handful of clerics condemn all the violence. I have yet to see any Muslim of great influence come out and say Enough. This could not be going on for so long unless there was a tacit approval for much of this by the majority of Muslims whether Shia or Sunni. Its hard to see how this will ever end until Islam cures itself of the sickness within and until Muslims step forward to stop all of this.

In my opinion there are only two good places in Patpong. One is the Star of Light BJ bar and the second the Music Cafe bar where some nice FLs can hang out from 11 pm onwards. Apart from these places I believe all the other places are lame and / or a rip off. Since my stay in Silom any time I've been back in BKK I've stayed in Sukhumvit. Cheers, Mac75.

Patpong's reputation for scam bars has done the area irreparable harm. But everything goes round in cycles. Patpong is where I popped my Thai cherry many, many years ago (1989). Patpong was once hot. Then it became a tourist trap and a rip off place. I think it is at long last on the upturn again. There are now a few quality bars on Potpong 2 with a cool vibe and plenty of friendly and attractive girls to make your acquaintance. After years (more than a decade) of avoiding the place, I now like to go there occasionally again. Just avoid the touts on the street and give them no never mind and I think you will have a great time.

Electric Blue is a good Go Go. No scams here and it offers a good atmosphere. They have some nice spinners. They have some plain girls too. YMMV, but in my opinion the joint is as good as Mandarin or Shark any night just different, but that is good thing, right? So go, give it a look / see, try it on for size and report back.

And while you are on Patpong Soi 2, check out Bada Bing. They have some very attractive coyote girls (higher cost) working there that you might fancy. I did.

I have not been to Black Pagoda or The Strip, but I heard these two bars can be good too. Specifically I have heard that just about anything goes behind the semi private curtains in the booths at the Strip. Just fine the right girl to your liking and have a blast.

I've only been to Soi Cowboy a few times, so apologies if this is a newbie question: I've noticed that none of the girls at any of the bars on Soi Cowboy are topless (at least not the ones I've been to). However, at the bar right around the corner (right off the main strip), all of the dancing girls are completely naked from head to toe. Just seems strange that this is the only bar that allows that. Is it some sort of gov't restriction on the main strip?
