This report is for my trip way back in Nov last year. Unfortunately I had to cut short my trip (not because of the issue I detailed below 😀.) after 2 days in Rio and return home.

The only place I visited during those 2 day stay was my favorite terma, Solarium.

On the 2nd day, I went to room with a girl. Lights in the room went out within 5 minutes. I didn't want to do it in the dark so I came out and informed the manager / supervisor lady that lights were out. The staff ran around for 10 minutes and then they completely ignored me. I went and asked the manager lady what they are doing about the room situation. I expected them to switch me to another room or wait for another room to be open if non were available. But to my surprise, I was asked to pay to girl and not for the room because I spent 15 minutes (they have included the 10 minutes I spent outside the room to resolve the issue). I tried to tell them that I was in the room for less than 5 minutes but they didn't care. It was difficult to communicate with the staff without Portuguese. The reception lady does understand and speak some English but she pretended she didn't. Very strange way to handle the issue. I guess that's the way they roll in Rio. Anyway, I have enjoyed visiting the club but I don't plan on visiting it again.

The communication hiccups are especially strange, as there are at least 2 receptionists who speak near-native English -- a guy and a gal who used to live in Queens for years. Shit happens but I tend to give 2nd chance depending on how issues are resolved. It was their problem. All they had to do was take responsibility and provided me another room instead of asking me to pay for services not rendered. Why play games of running out the clock, ignoring etc.
