FYI everyone, was in PI, Burgos Street last week and got stopped by a swarm of cops, because I had a beer bottle in the street. They told me and my friend to get into the car, threatening to arrest us. The guy was saying, this is a viloation of subsection...bullshit, blah blah blah, more bullshit. They was taking us to the police station to arrest us or something. So we just wanted to bribe the fuckers and get on with mongering. We ended up paying 2ooo pesos each, so a total of 4000 pesos. I was pissed, but did not want to argue, so paid them and got out of the car. If I had more time, and was not on vacation, I would have tried to bargain and maybe just get processed at the station. We just wanted to get out of there, because we only had several days in PI.

I was just wondering what is the police process at the station (like, how long would it have taken to get out of there?), and what would be the fine for drinking beer on the street? Was it a good move just to pay them off, or did we overpay and spoiled the market? :) hahaha.

PS. The question we asked to bribe them, so that they would not be so crooked looking if they said yes, was:

Anyways, had fun roaming around PI on a pretty successfully fun mongering trip this past mid April. Learned a lot about how EDSA works. Had some hits and misses from there, but it seemed that my friends were pretty much satisfied and happy about EDSA, because we ended up going there every night. One recommendation is to not highlighted yourself by drinking beer and having a beer bottle in the street. If a swarm of cops in a foriegn country are telling you you are breaking their law, chalk it up to a learning experience and don't repeat it.

In Manila the only difference between the cops & the crim's is the cops have uniforms. Unfortunately this country is still riddled with cronyism & corruption. Every one, judges included, is looking to get there hands on more money. As an expat I can make this work in my favour sometimes with the appropriate schmoozing & relationship building but as a tourist it better to avoid the cops.
Just go about your business peaceably, dont draw attention to your self & you'll be fine. Getting into arguments with Manila cops is a no win situation.
