It is located across from the Pasar Raya Shopping Mall and is one block away from Top gun and the other hot bars at Blok M. The Ambhara Hotel has received several good reviews on this board.

Regarding the Hotel Melawai I (the Maribaya Spa is located on the 6th floor), I agree that it's a bit dingy, and it's certainly not upscale.

However, there is a Hotel Melawai II located directly across the street from Hotel Melawai I. Hotel Melawai II is in a newer building with nicer rooms than Hotel Melawai I, and is still in a good location close to all of the Blok M action. You should be able to get a room here for under 400, 000 rupiah a night; at the current US$-Rupiah exchange rate, that's around $33 a night. Note: I would not consider this hotel to be "upscale."

Check out this link. Very close to the blok, very nice apartments and only 1. 8 mill a week. I called them and they do daily rates as well.

The Amaris, is a nice budget hotel with no frills, the rooms are small and fairly basic but have cable tv and are clean and modern, worth checking out.

Rude.[/QUOTE]Rude, Griya Prapanca is located at Jl. Pangeran Antasari, around 4 kilometers away from Blok M. 1.8 million Rp. deal is for 6 days, not a week. I believe you will find this studio type offer fully booked all the time and the management will offer you 2 point something million Rp. for the same studio with newer furniture.

Awhile back I had a girl demand 1.5 million in the morning, but I told her that 1 million was already too much. As a white expat that doesn't speak much Indo, it didn't seem like I was going to get much lower.

To be honest, with the tanking rupiah, I really can't be bothered spending an hour trying to negotiate the girl down from $80 to $70 or $60 or whatever you think should be paid for an overnight stay. I suspect that I get a better service as a result as well.

I got the impression that the Blok M places have lower prices. Actually, not just the impression, I had intimate knowledge that they do :) but no time right now to write up another report.

Recently spent 6 days vacation in Jakarta and thought I would share my experiences. First off, the economy might be bad, but this worked to my advantage on this trip. 1 USD = 12, 000 rupiahs. Best exchange rate I have had in the last 3 years I have visited.

First 3 nights stayed at Shangri-La. Very tired first night (Sunday) from long flight, so sent sms to a girl I had been chatting with on Yahoo that I was pretty. We met at the hotel and then took taxi for nice dinner at Bebek Bali and then she agreed to come back to my room to relax since I told her I was very tired. Apparently I was not too tired for sex . We had a nice go at it, and then slept, and had one more round in the morning. Then I told her I had to leave to go to the office (Even though I am only there for vacation, I like to tell everyone I am there for business, because I am not good at making up stories on the spot).

Monday morning still jet lagged so I head over to Mitra Sehat (family massage parlor) in Plaza Semanggi for a regular massage. This place always gives a great massage. There are always plenty of cute girls who work here, but I don’t think they provide extras. I was not willing to ask because I enjoy coming here just for a great massage. Although many times the girls have been very nice and chatty and I would not be surprised if they would give you their number to meet later.

Monday night, feeling much better. SMS another girl I had chatted up on Yahoo. This girl is 26 has a good job and quite cute. I was sure there was no chance of having sex, but she seemed cool and I wanted to hang out with her. She suggested we go to dinner. So we have dinner at another fine restaurant (Pulau Dua), and then go to Cork & Screw Wine Bar. By the time we left the wine bar we are both a bit tipsy as she suggest we head to Mistere at the Ritz. The band at the Ritz was very good, but there were not many people there (we stayed until 1:30am) however, there were several hotties there and the women outnumbered the men by at least 3 to 1. We ended up dancing until early morning and kissing quite a bit, but then we went our separate ways once we left the Ritz. The interesting thing is, she refused to let me pay for anything. Between, dinner, the wine bar, the club, the drinks, and the taxis, we must have easily spent $250USD, but she said I was a guest in her country and would not let me pay.

Tuesday morning I am severely hung over. I am sitting at breakfast at the Shangri-la reading the Jakarta Post. I don’t feel like going out, so I turn to the classified and decide to take my chances with a massage listing. I figured I would pay too much and could not be sure about the girl, but why not. I SMS the massage listing and the return SMS quote 600, 000 for 2 hours. They send the girl, and too my surprise she is cute. She gave a really good massage that finished with a BBBJ w/CIM. I get the feeling I could have done much more with this girl, but I did not have the energy.

Tuesday night I decide to go to BATS. Showed up around 11:00. There were a lot of guys there, but still plenty of hot women. I found the one empty seat left at the bar and ordered a beer. Not long after I sat down, a cute girl strolled up to the bar next to me. I was happy, and then she started to talk. Unfortunately I had run into the Asian version of Fran Drescher (the Nanny). Her voice was so annoying. Fortunately the music was loud. I tried to show her zero interest, but she just kept sitting there and talking to me. But the great thing about most clubs is that you can be sitting and chatting with one girl, and making eye contact with others. I had been making eye contact and smiling with another girl across the bar all night. I told the Nanny I needed to go to the toilet, headed up the stairs and made eye contact with the hottie from across the bar. She laughed, I signaled that she should follow me, and she met me on the steps. We chatted for a few minutes and I asked her to come back to my room with me. Based on reviewing the forum before my trip I was prepared for tough negotiations. However, she never asked for anything. She came back to my room. She excused herself to the bathroom and returned just wearing a towel. She proceeded with a nice BBBJ then she proceeded to ride me, but ultimately I finished on top. She stayed the night (another 7 hours and we had another go in the morning followed by a shower). She never mentioned money, but I slipped her 500, 000, which she put in her purse without counting, and then gave her another 40, 000 for cab fare as we rode in the elevator.

My last 3 nights in Jakarta, I went to CJs. After going once I found no reason to leave. Each night I showed up around 10: 30 – 11:00. Very crowded each night. But always plenty of hot girls alone. Especially after 1:00am the girls start pouring in. Took the same girl back to hotel 2 nights in a row (other night different girl). Really liked her. Got her number and will call her again when I am back in Jakarta. Same thing, none of the girls ever mentioned money. So each time I gave them 500, 000 for LT plus a little extra for taxi. They never counted. Only exception, my last night with repeat girl, gave her 700, 000 since it was my last night and I would not need the rupiahs anymore.

Anyway, I am already looking forward to my next visit in 3 or 4 months.

Not only do the Blok M places have lower prices, in many cases the girls that you see there are the same girls that you will see at BATS! They will start the evening at BATS at the Shangri-La Hotel, then if they don't hook up with a guy there, they will move on to Blok M later in the evening and (usually) lower their prices as the hours pass and they get more desperate.

If I may add on to the points of Mighty Spearman. Yes, the same girls hang around Blok M every day. But there are also the odd 'small' players who will appear 1-3 times a week. Most of them can be found in Top Gun/MyBar, normally hanging around the experienced ones. The 'seasoned' girls normally help to negotiate on their behalf.

I met one such girl during my trip in August. Could tell she was in desperate need in money for she was willing to do anything I asked. In fact I noticed there was a large hole on her panty, right above her right butt cheek during the 'strip' show in the room! On hindsight, it was a poor decision on my part not to have secured her phone number.

Jakarta continues to amaze me.

Ambhara is just across the road from Pasaraya Grande Blok M and probably falls into your budget. The Ambhara and Gran Mahakam are the only upscale hotels I can think of around there but the Gran Mahakam might be over your budget (but not if the rupiah keeps dropping).

Bros, I was in CJs on Friday night and received a few quotes in this range and even higher (1 million for a single shot - she went down to 700k, supposedly because I was "gantang" - and needless to say, I walked away). But it was clear that the market is really being spoilt (and I'm ashamed to say that some of those doing the spoiling are from my own country). It's all very well to say that the rupiah is down right now, but if it goes up over the next few months, I doubt the prices will come down to follow suit. Please utilise the upper brain as the lower one is really rather unreliable under these circumstances.

During this last trip, I did a first and took a TC girl back for overnight. A touch heavier than my usual slim specs but very friendly (and as it turned out later very wet). We had 2 long rounds (2X2 hours) and plenty of "playing around" in between. At a rate of 550k + 200k tip (9.30pm - 9.30am) it turned out to be reasonably priced.

I finally got to visit Berlian and Kartika. There was clearly a better choice of girls at Kartika with a brighter (and less filled with karaoke music) reception area. It did however feel like I was in the "fishbowl" and they were looking in as almost too much attention was given to me as the only customer there at the time (~3.45pm).

We strolled into Red Square, bought a bottle of 42 below and ended up leaving as it was way too crowded. Perhaps it would be advisable to book some seating or arrive much earlier than 11pm.

The Golden Boutique Hotel in the karaoke bar area behind the Melawei is a nice well furnished modern hotel which is in the same price range as the Ambhara, I personally don't like the place because of the cool off handed nature of the reception staff and their slowness (and of reports that they will try to overcharge for dirty sheets etc) but it might appeal to others, they also do 3 hour rates.

Menteng, the Amaris charge 345,000 a night, no deposit, worth checking out.

Yesterday eve I went for the first time to Hotel Travel. Normally when I am too tired and or too lazy to hunt a girl, I am used to go to Hotel Melawai in Blok M.

This time I went to Hotel Travel in Jl. Mangga Besar.

I fully will recommend this place. Plenty of all kind of girls, clean rooms plus affordable prices. I went upstairs with Yanti BN. She had the looks of a mid twenty girl, but it turns out she already reached the thirties. I bought her an Ice tea and for myself a Bir Bintang: costs Rp. 28.000 = +/- US$ 3,75.

She gave me - after a pretty fuck - an outstanding BBBJ CIM: Rp. 285.000. I tipped her Rp. 50.000.
