I wasn't drunk or belligerent (until they told me that), and entered wearing a business suit and platinum card. And I speak Korean well enough to argue about what a stupid policy that is. So it wasn't because of "communication difficulties" which is the usual nonsense cited for why foreigners should be discriminated against. They just don't want us or our money. These were places at which I had previously been a regular customer.

This country really sucks. If anyone reading this makes decisions about buying things from Korea other than pussy (the pussy is first-rate, I concede), or investing here, might I suggest you think again.

At least the room salons are still fun and open to foreigners. For now, I guess...

The sad thing is that we come here, all too many of us, if not all, with the best of intentions.

I did, anyway.

We work for Korean companies. We work with Koreans. We try to adapt, learn to speak the language as well as we can.

Only to be treated with contempt.

My best Korean experience of the entire past year unfolded just yesterday.

I was walking to work.

Two very young girls, about 8 or 9 years old, said "Hi!"

I smiled back at them and said "Hi!" in return.

They weren't laughing at me--amazingly. They were just plain saying "Hi".

We exchanged huge smiles as I continued on past them.

NO--this is nothing to do with sex.

It should go without saying that I am not SEXUALLY attracted to pre-pubescent girls.

But it's all too seldom that Koreans, of whatever age or sex, just plain greet you politely, without unnecessary laughter, or bullshit of whatever description.

Their simple greeting warmed my heart. It kept me going all day.

The newly foreigner Ban sounds strange as I thought that the scene would rather open up more then to ban.
Lets evaluate by several tries in several areas if this anma policy decision is 'restricted' to the Gangnam area. I cant believe that they are able to do such a Seoul wide decision.

I do not think the whole country is anti foreign, but the sex business definitely seems to be from time to time.

Are we in the same country?
I don't see most of the Korean ladies as being sexy. They are all nice to look at, but that's about it (i.e. no urges to bone them or fall in love with them. :o )

Ok, they do have the latest fashion designs. So, they have recent styles, but not sexy. Compare to Thailand, Hong Kong, Philippines, or Hawaii, Korean girls are quite conservative. And, I'm talking about the ones on the streets and in the malls.
The niteclub scene is different. And, you'll find them in tight halter tops (showing a bit of shoulder or stomach) and hip-huggers or mini-skirts. But, only in the clubs. Once they leave, they'd change back into long, flowing skirts, baggy pants, and/or fluffy blouses, before heading home. :(

And, has anyone noticed that on average most young Korean girls tend to have wider hips and thicker thighs than the older ladies? I doubt it had anything to do with the government. I suspect that there have been reports of foreigners availing themselves of the Anmas, and that the vocal minority (or is it majority in this case) of local men pressed the issue with the owners. If these owners are good business men, then they acted to protect their business. Then again - there may be no logical reason at work here. But, I'd put a large wager it was business related.

Last Friday I went to a new Anma and their was no problem. My guess is that this will pass within a month. I suggest avoiding their busy times when their Korean customers would see and you be upset.

I can't confirm that. After a month of holiday from mongering I returned to the scene and went to Miari yesterday.

As usual if you enter right after Subway exit 10 the first 'gate' (= curtain) to the right, in the first alley with the open curtains the mamasans will not approach you as a foreigner. But as soon as you reach the first 'crossing' where the mamasans sometimes gather for chatting they are open up to show you their girls and recommend them with 'service good'. As a frequent customer they recognize me as such and friendly as I am, I great them as well.
Went to my favourite shop. Could not get my favourite gal as she was busy, but the other choice offered provided almost the same GFE friendly service to me.
