This may be partly true but I don't know a guy who lives here who hasn't cut back on going to the gogos because the prices have and continue to rise. People have budgets for girls like everything else and if you have to decide between eating and paying the rent or decreasing the number of girls you have per month the choice is a pretty obvious one. Now for guys who fly half way around the world and have saved up for their vacation this may be more true but I also know a bunch of guys who refused to pay more than 1000 baht for FL's and have been priced out of the market and go to the Philippines or Cambodia now. For me the idea of paying 3000 baht for a FL at Climax is crazy but that is what a lot of the girls are asking. I won't pay it. Or pay 2500 for a gogo girl with the BF for as little time as they can get away with. I am slowly being priced out of the market. Guys have to get laid but they can get laid a lot less if necessary. At some price point when you factor in airline and hotel cost, it will be cheaper to get laid at home. But admittedly a lot less fun.

Then they got their currency under control and the next time I went the price had gone up to between $80 and $100. I stopped going. I discovered the Dominican Republic where girls were $30. I hit the oilies once a week these days. Used to hit the FL scene three or four times a week. Price was 1 k baht and that was 25 USD back then. Now 2500? Forget it. However I live in Thailand approx. 4 months per year in total, flying in and out several times per year. Studied Thai Language over 20 years ago so pretty fluent now. Have a Thai GF (who doesn't speak English) for many years now and still stunning body, but not enough sex. So am probably looking for a liaison every 2nd day, on average. I rent by the month, but sometimes stay in Hotel just a few days to spend time with a regular "Gik".

You got a pretty good looking enthusiastic gal for 1 k baht ST (25 USD at the time) and 500 baht BF. So for 37 USD you had a pretty damn good time. And gals were plentiful. Okay The vocab has few words in common with English, but there are no grammatical problems, and less idiomatic use of words or expressions than English. The challenge for Thai is learning to pronounce. That dominates the first 6 months. Once the sounds are properly understood, the rest is fairly easy. Thai words do not change, due to grammar. I find languages like French and German to be a lot more difficult than Thai, due to tricky word sequence and mostly grammatical problems. I haven't really studied Spanish so I don't know much about that one. In European languages, when you have to change verbs for making various tenses, know whether nouns are masculine, feminine or neuter and adjective endings have to match case and gender of nouns, that is a difficult language to speak properly. Thai has none of those issues.

The main issue in Thai for me, is purely making the right tone on words, which is just part of learning the word. At least it does not change thankfully.

In English, vowels are pronounced quite differently by different countries. It does not matter. In Thai, this is not possible, and the vowel sounds are significantly different to English. The vowels can only be pronounced one way. The funniest Thai speakers tend to be some Americans as you can hear the American drawl coming through and stretching words longer than they should be, as well as vowels tending to have an American sound instead of Thai sound, which is incorrect. So some have proceeded too far with vocab before getting the pronunciation close to correct. Perhaps they did not have a strict teacher to enforce the correct sounds early. Its easier for Germans to speak Thai as most German vowels are quite close to Thai vowels in sound. Similarly for many other Europeans.

In Thai, pronunciation is everything, grammar is almost nothing. Thai has an alphabet. So learning to write or SMS in Thai is not massively challenging, and only 10% of words have tricky spellings. When read a Thai word, it can be pronounced correctly in more than 95% of cases. It's systematic, unlike English.

Vietnamese is more difficult than Thai due to tricky pronunciation, and I suspect that Khmer is also more difficult. Issaan is also slightly more difficult due to difficulties to correctly understand the tones.

Thai is one of the easier Asian languages excepting of course Indonesian / Malaysian and Tagalog.
