Money / Currency exchange
Last November I spoke a person at the exchange office right next to SOVA Natural bakery in Copa (right opposite the address RioBob gave). I was given better rate than published rate if I exchange big dollar bills. For some reason I didn't trust him, so I didn't exchange money at the location. Who knows, maybe he was legit. I mostly used Brodesco ATMs in Brazil.
Ah okay, I will just look up Bradesco ATMs near me. This method worked for me in Colombia so I hope it works fine there. The exchange rates for dollars is always bad at airports. I was told by a local girl I am talking to ahead of time that "no one takes cash anymore" so I was worried. I'm not going through the hassle of getting a pix. They'll have to make do with cash. I land next week! Thanks man.
My two cents for Rio from my last tour
I have been recently to Rio de Janeiro and met Vagabundo. It was a great time. It is my 4th or 5th visit to Rio, so check out my other reports. This report is only an add-on to my previous reports and some insights. Also please note that it is for someone that spends a bit more than just a short fuck in Centro Prives. I was looking for a girl to stay with me for longer time.
Hotels:
I stayed in Copacabana, I like it. It is close to Dolce Vita and Mab's and nicer to stay next to the beach. It is also 35 minutes drive from the center.
Be careful, most of the hotels does not like that you bring visitors. Although I had a room for 3 people one of the receptionist have made be some troubles but most of them were ok with me bringing girls. Make sure the girls are not dressed as hookers but dressed a bit more nicely and you will be able to let them inside the hotel.
DO NOT book and apartment from Booking.com - they don't let you talk with the owner before. I had lost money there.
Girls:
Had nice success in 4 x4; beautiful girls although a bit too much of cheap look. But that's the place I liked most.
Vagabundo took me to another Terma which was quite interesting.
Best way to find girls is to find a good girl that will bring her friends. Do not try to book a girl that your other girls is not familiar with. I made that mistake and I almost lost one of the girls I like. A 21 years old mulata with dreamy eyes.
Dolce Vita and Mab's were also quite ok. Had a nice experience with two real sisters.
Brazilian girls like to eat a lot. Like, I take them out, they eat the whole menu. I bought some groceries to prepare breakfast, they ate it all on the same night almost and also finished three bottles of wine.
I went to see one night how does Barra the Tijuca works. Went to a massage there Prisma Massage, it was quite a bad experience and expensive.
But the whole restaurants area of Barra the Tijuca was packed with beautiful young girls wearing jeans and bikini top going out at night. Mesmerizing view but I couldn't understand if they are working girls (Garotas de Programa) or just regular young girls. I just looked and looked and didn't have any success talking to them. I still feel I need to investigate this area more.
I booked a few girls from BarrasVIP. Was not a very good success. High prices and the girls are not that high quality. I can find the same quality even in Mab's or 4 x4. I had a few successes in Photoacompnhantes with girls and some girls were not so good. The problem with booking to the room is you never know what you're going to get. The girls photos from both websites were real photos but it is the girl attitude that you can not control. Some were nice and some sucked. So I prefer to stay with finding one nice girl and letting her bring her girlfriends.
Last thing is that the girls are very hard to communicate with, not because of the language barrier but culture. You set a meeting at 15:00, they send you I will be there at 15:30 and eventually shows up at 17:00. Very frustrating. They are also very jealous, so inviting another girl or saying something that they don't like and they might block you on whatsapp. I guess if they were smarter and more open minded they could have make much more money but then again they wouldn't be a working girl if they were smart.
Cut them loose at the first sign of trouble

I only once booked a rental on Booking and was able to talk to the owner of that Salvador penthouse. She assured me that her "no visitors" thingy didn't really mean it, which turned out to be true and led to one of my most memorable stays in Brazil. That was a long time ago, though.

I had a girl throw a fit at a nice Buzios restaurant because she thought I was checking someone's ass (and maybe I was, but WTF, you're not my GF! Of course, I put her on the bus back home next morning.
Look, I see early signs of flakiness as a blessing. If she's 2 hrs late, why encourage bad behavior? I'd just cancel, go out and have someone else. She blocks you on WA (provided you weren't rude or offensive) -- her loss, too. There are girls who aren't flakey or not too flakey (although the longer she's with you, the more she tends to forget she's just serving at your pleasure). When that happens, I jokingly give her a warning, and if she fails to heed it -- cut them loose. I'm in Rio for less than 2 weeks at a time -- the last thing I need is a Brazilian soap opera unfolding in my space. Thanks, but no thanks.
Some quick questions about current scene in Rio
I have visited Rio well before pandemic but I guess some things may have changed since then. Can someone please help me find answers to following questions?
1. Does GIG still have the Uber pick up outside international arrivals area at the airport (one has to cross one or two lanes) or is it now only at the domestic arrival section?
2. Does InDriver work in Rio and relaible?
3. What is the going rate at 4 x4 and other prives in Copa and Centro area for half an hour or 45 minutes of action?
4. Any GF hotel recommendations in Copa area?
5. SIM. I had some trouble getting SIM last time and have read that other than the eSim, the second best option is to buy a TIM SIM from a newstand rather than go to official store in Rio Sul and then call the number, use option 3 and 3 again to get service in English and get it activated with your passport number. Is this still the best advise or is it possible to get a tourist sim for a week by going to a store in rio sul shopping mall?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can spare time to answer any or all of the above.
