The couple of times I've been in Rio from Christmas through New Year's it's been kinda dead. I found most of places to be closed or with little to no girls. Seems they are all vacationing or with family. From my experience things don't seem to pick up again until the second week of January. Anyone found different? Thinking of planning a trip during last week 2024 and first week 2025, but am a little weary as it is expensive around New Years and worried about not much action available.

I was lucky enough to line up some girls on Seeking. It was sooo strange being there Christmas day on the 25th but I made the most of it.
I also lucked out cause I found a chick willing to travel to me at night to get a Christmas gift (my hot load on her face).
I'll say this. Yes things pick up after new years, new years itself is a shit show. That said you will still find plenty of girls that need cash and casa are open. If I had the choice I would go right after new years.

First day back. I was tired and decided to go to Mabs around 12 ish maybe. Any mistakes were made I paid and left my jacket, made about a block before I realized. To my surprise the staff collected it and returned it to me, but I was not surprise to find my rs $600 had been lifted. Damn. All well, I noticed a good looker there and got her WhatsApp. Decided to walk back and got pressed my a man with a blade and three 3 boys on the Main Street by monte carlos. Staring at me like a wild man, taking a big look around with a crazy smile he said "there's no police" hahahahah. They tried to rob me, but I was already angry for what just happened. They ran off, but upset I raced back to my place to change my clothes. I needed sneakers and dropped off my jacket. I went back out looking for them. I knowwwwww. STUPID. And unarmed. Well heading back to them, a guy stopped me. He said he saw what happed before. He calmed me down and I went home. He may have saved my life. Oh and he offered me free entry to the terma. I will be taking him up on this later.
Anyway, I want to say be careful. It feels like things are getting bad. But, this was probably self-inflicted.

Of course, I wouldn't advocate doing ANYTHING aggressively in Brazil.
I'd offer another tip from my admittedly limited interactions with civilian Brasileiras. They expect you to pay. Always. For meals, entertainment, taxis, everything. Don't try this going Dutch shit with them unless it's over and you don't give a damn. You'll find banging a GDP is much cheaper than "free" sex in Brazil.

Rideshare and cabs might not be 100% safe, but I'm guessing they're still safer than buses. Metro is another good, fast and safe option (I think) if your hotel or Airbnb is not too far away.
