Your post is quite negative but I think you make some really good points. You're right that the Phils isn't that cheap, considering it's essentially a fourth world country. For example, my rent and daily cost of living were cheaper when I lived in Ecuador, and I had a better standard of living compared to the Philippines. I was only in the Phils for a couple of months so perhaps I need to stay longer in order to lock in a lower lease, etc. But still, things like electricity and other utilities are a rip off in the Philippines.

Another thing about people speaking English, I read this a lot on this board and others as well and I have to say that this is the biggest crock of shit I have ever heard in my life! The vast majority of people in the Philippines DO NOT speak English well, and the dirt poor filipinos barely speak it at all. I don't understand the guys that say filipinas speak great English, unless they are dating upper class girls, then that is true but that is a very small minority of the women in the Philippines. And the bar girls, please, most of them speak terrible English! If you decide to live there I think you must learn Tagalog.

Regarding expatriation, I'm with you about Central America, and even Mexico is starting to look good.

When you add up the visa renewal costs this is a significant expense in living there.

The phil. gov. also imposes heavy ticket taxes on airline prices. Business startup costs are high there even if you can manage to keep control of what will almost always be a Filipino owned biz.

It is not a very welcoming Country. Short time and long time costs are high for such a place, considering the wage rates there; even in Angeles, when you take into account all the ancilliary costs associated with buying p**sy, it is no bargain, imo.

But u cannot deny the filipina woman usually have a very welcoming attitude even if they do have alterior motives. Contrast this to thai women who are much more independent and not as eager.

Yes the Philippines is expensive for a poverty stricken country but so is Afghanistan LOL. The electricity is ridiculous. I read in a magazine that PI power cost were second in Asia only to Japan. Hotels are way over priced, food etc. I usually spend about $350 on food alone and my household is a family of 2 but I do eat western style dishes steak, fish on the regular etc. Eating out is a multi-weekly thing. If I had to stay out here and try rub pennies togather I would take my ass home. It’s not worth it just for ass. Well not for me.

It would help to learn Tagalog but it is not required my Tagalog is very limited and I get along fine. One thing you do need to live out here what I have yet to see mentioned… is a local you can trust. I am not talking about that uneducated fuck toy from Burgos or EDSA but somebody you can really trust that has their head on straight. You will find yourself in jams or find people trying to rip you off. If you know no one here who is going to try to protect your wallet and you then you will find the place undesirable. Now finding a local with a straight head is the challenge. Most locals I have came across from the bar girls shaking ass in the club to the college educated ones with good jobs have been "out there" mentally.

As far as them English speaking part, I have been there 4 times now, and I have not met one person I could no communicate with. I did not know one word of Tagalog.

Its all upside down in India and some of the scared faces of would be mongers, who were amazed that i even go to bar girls even with a condom with all the scary stats around.

With the Philippines being made up of over 7,000 islands and their reputation for poor public services and record keeping any statistics on HIV are likely to be grossly under reported. Impoverished Filipinos out in the provinces are unlikely to spend their few pesos on medical attention and a lot of AIDS cases probably go undiagnosed. When the amount of bar girls and freelancers getting barebacked and then returning infected to their villages is taken into account it becomes quite obvious that the true numbers are much larger than what the government has reported. The government has reasons for under reporting the number of AIDS cases. The Philippines depends heavily on their citizens being able to work overseas as a source of revenue via remittances. Reporting a high incidence of AIDS in PI would scare away foreign employers. The deep involvement of the Catholic Church in PI politics is another reason why the government may want to pretend that the whole AIDS epidemic and the need for the use of condoms do not exist.

1. It denies its "flock" the chance to learn about birth control thereby ensuring the population ever increases.

2. It denies its people the means to stop HIV by not actively discouraging condom useage at the pulpit.

3. Its a huge landowner and yet claims povery at every step.

4. Every Presidential candidate needs its endorsement.

Remove the influence of the Church and the country would stand a chance!

They were the glory days. Remember my cherry trip to LOS in about ’85.
