Fianar a good place to rest between two longs strechs of taxibrousse I agree.
Fianar a good place to get laid I disagree. It s probably the most strict city in the country. Never met so many virgins there. Everybody is very religious and girls stay with families so easy to meet them for a drink with their chaperon but forget it if you want to get a quickie the same day.
Perhaps I was lucky. I never slept alone. But must confirm your statements with the virgins:

LE Pandora-Tamatave
I know its reopened again. But does anyone know the opening days of LE Pandora disco? Friday / Saturday only?
And in comparison: Disco Paradise is said t be open every night. Anyone was there lately?

Voa
It seems good times are over for longterm Mada travellers. Visa on arrival is only available for 2 months any more. As of mid November 3 months is not available any more. Also it was corrected on the official french embassy homepage. Which doesn't mean a friendly official is selling you any stamp for a fee.
But there it is.

Voa.
Well that sucks big time. I am planning a trip mid June and it was going to be for 3 months. Am I correct in assuming that if this does not kick in until November I should not have a problem? Any ideas on whether or not it will still be available after November ahead of time through an Embassy. If I had plenty of time in advance I (or anyone) could do it that way. Saves the hassle at the airport too.
Where did you end up after Nosy Be or was that the end of your stay?

In Tana the extension is nightmare. Anyway Mada now has nothing to offer I think its my last trip and I am already two month on the ground.

2 Months

In the past yes. As the permitted maximum stay was 3 months. Now its 2 months. Since Nov. 15th, 2018. No any more. If you can read french it says very clearly "Ce visa, dit de non-immigration, n'est ni prorogeable" No extension. Except the illegal business done by immigration officials.
Neddy.

Neddy.
No not in the past.
A personal friend of mine did it in December and he is not a liar OK? Believe it or not up to you.
Last news today another friend just arrived directly at Majunga and got a 3 months visa on arrival.
Again don't believe what you see on the French link.

I did a check here from France on Mada Embassy web site and on visa-en-ligne.com, both says that for tourists visa can be of 1, 2 or 3 months.
But on the ground things can vary a lot....

3 months

After Nosy Be I spent 3 weeks in Tana. See my posts. I didn't like the city in particular but was too lazy to explore any other places as I had 2 really nice chics.
I didn't like the city in particular but was too lazy to explore any other places as I had 2 really nice chics.
Not lazy. When you know how boring the other places can be, it's harder to motivate yourself out of Tana. And Tana is easier to like when you're not staying in a dump. New hotel, I stayed in for New Years' can be highly recommended: Tamboho Suites.
No three month visa, no problem. Six weeks in Mada plenty of time.

Maybe a little more light will shine on the topic after a few guys arrive and actually try to get a 3 month. If they bother to post. I guess I will just wait and see. Might motivate me try another country in Africa. Who knows.

Best method to wait in the reception. Tana is a dump you walk you fall to a hole or peoples will spit without looking and the worst part is that in the mainland Africa there are better looking girls.
I would say a well plan trip for 3 weeks is fine. I have 10 days more now from my 2 month trip. Next destination Bhair Dar Etiopia.

According to my sources the validity of the visa was only 2 months during the elections period. It s back to normal now. You can have 3 months visa again at the airport until further notice so nothing to worry about for those who want to stay long time here.

In the province it s different.
