Hoser[/QUOTE]Paisas are people who live in the greater Antioquia area. Antioquia is the "State(Departamento)" that Medellín is in. Costeños are people who live along the Caribbean coast including those from CTG, BAQ, and SM. Rolos are from Bogotá.

Your advice is needed: would it be possible to rent apartment in boca grande or laguito for 2 month (starting from the end of january) for 600-700 US$ per month? (from what I read here, it looks like 700us$ is too little for Cartagena, but still want to check)

CTG is a very hot tourist town. Wear whatever you like. Most government offices and some better clubs on weekend nights will not let you in wearing shorts.

My flight does not arrive until 1:30 pm on the 20th. The safe bet is to meet sometime around 3 pm that day. I'd like to head on over to the beach to relax and to check out the chicas. As you probably know, 3. 5 pm in the afternoon is prime for scouting en la playa.
Riquissimos is fine by me to meet (mi apartamento es en Laguito), but at that time of day you may have already ventured out elsewhere. If you'd still like to meet-up around 3 or so, just let me know. I know Laguito y la playa fairly well, so just whatever works best.

La playa = the beach en Espanol.
"Hollywood" is a busy (at least on weekends, holidays, etc.) section of the beach. It's pretty much lays on the Soutwest point of Boca Grande. It is where the infamous Tony (or as he says, Tony Number 1) plys his trade.
From your building (Playa Mar), head Northwest (opposite direction of the Hilton), pass Riquissimos, stay to the left of the police station, pass the shops and La Perla Casino on your right, and the street will run you into the Hotel Dann. Turn left down that side street and you'll run into a 2-story restaurant on your left and a one story restaurant on your right. Turn right onto the beaten path just in front of the one-story restaurant on your right. Walk down the beaten path past the rocks on to the beach. Keep walking down the beach about 150 yards or so. You're in Hollywood.
Others may like to stay to the right of the Police Station, pass La Perla Casino on your left, pass the Loco Gringo on your right, pass the road in front of La Perla Casino and then enter on your left at the first beach side road entrance (just past a little bus waiting spot). Proceed directly toward the beach/ocean. As you walk onto the beach, angle to your left as you head toward the water. You're in Hollywood.
Be prepared for the onslaught of vendors whose job is to ease you of your dinero. Go back through older posts on this thread to learn the going-rate for items such as beers, chairs, carpas, etc. Also remember that everything is negotiable and 99 times out of 100 the first price you receive is grossly inflated (hey, they have to try, just in case you take it hook, line and sinker).
Jim is a seasoned veteran of your building from Florida who is a valuable source for information and speaks from first-hand experience. He's a good guy who is approachable, with a friendly demeanor.
You can find more information about all of the above from earlier posts in this thread. You'll even see mention of the concrete ledge out in front of Playa Mar---look for a post from Tom33 where he mentions that he and Jim have referred to it as their office. Since your staying in that building, I'd take advantage of the comforts of that concrete ledge at least on one early evening (say between 5.7) to take-in the street scene that passes by.

I can only tell you what I wear, which is shorts during the day for all outdoor activities. Cartagena is often hot and very humid. If I am going out in the evening, I'll wear trousers or jeans with a nice short-sleeve shirt.
I'd leave the Rolex at home. If you want to wear a watch, bring one you bought for $20. No need to draw any unnecessary attention to yourself. There are people who make it their vocation to ease you from your money, they already will think you are well-off. Do you want them to think you are mega-loaded?
Remember that this is the Carribean Coast of Colombia, where time and promptness aren't quite as important. My motto, slow down, relax and don't worry about the time. It's a vacation.

This is the best laugh I've had all week.common sense is a lost virtue. Buy a nice fake Rolex and some guys may roll you. Nasty irony.
It was so fucking hot every day in Cartegena I took at least 4 showers day, so don't wear a wool suit or it will fell like NYC subway platform in August. How any body would want to live in that oven all year round is beyond me, but it is much nicer than NYC.

I am a CRT Costa Rican mongering vet, however I am looking to expand my mongering opportunities to Colombia. I am unsure about where to go in Colombia. I have heard good things about CTG. I am looking for a nice place to stay, perhaps a private condo that is Chica friendly on the beach. This will be my first trip to Colombia so any advice will be apprieciated. Is mongering as simple in Col as in CR. It seems as though many of you target the non pros and the locals. My stay will be short and I do not have time to be romancing the stone.

This question you have has been debated over and over on here, so I do not think you are going to get a big response, especially since you are part of the Costa Rica invasion. Medellin would be a great place for you with all its casas e.t.c. It is also quite abit cheaper than Cartagena. If you are going to Colombia I highly suggest you learn spanish if you do not know it at all. Despite what others might say, spanish is ESSENTIAL if you are interested in the non-pro scene in Colombia. English is very rarely spoken. You might also want to consider going to Panama if you do not have spanish speaking skills, or even the Dominican, as both of these places have more english speaking people, and both are much more secure than Colombia. Just my personal opinion from having spent time in all three of these countries.
