Perhaps read old and inflexible ("booran") There is nothing wrong with shorts in Bangkok most of the time, but not for clubs at night. However by shorts, I don't mean something resembling pajamas or boogie board shorts. Like a good pair of pants but just cut shorter. In the very hot weather it is better not to have legs enclosed with sweat dripping down the back of your legs. Thais even encourage me to wear my nice shorts. If the weather is nice right now, shorts may not be necessary.
Is there any problem with legs exposure. I don't think so. If its a problem in visiting some royal temple, then a temporary wrap can be borrowed. I don't think wearing a singlet to show off muscles is such a great idea. At least a T-shirt with collar is preferable. Personally I don't like to wear gold chains, ear-rings, expensive watches (in fact I prefer no watch at all), but that is just me. I don't know what Thai girls think of it.
Canvas boots, socks to just under your knees, shorts to just above your knees, safari shirt and "aussie" style hat with one side buttoned up and you are the epitome of the old-style colonial gentleman.
If I recall correctly, Sean Connery, as the first and best of the James Bond's, and the epitome of Scottish cool in mens fashion, dress and otherwise, occasionally wore Bermuda shorts in one or more of his great Bond flicks. If he can to it, so can you and I in the hot climate of Thailand.
That's a movie. Men wearing shorts marks you as a stupid falong tourist. Men shouldn't show their legs, unless you're gay and want to show off your shapely legs.

I can do well enough with hookers using my sparkling personality and the contents of my wallet, thank you. Beyond that my concern is being comfortable and I really don't give a shit what hookers think about the way I dress.

Shorts (to below the knee) from sun-up to sundown; Never after dark, wherever you are.

Short pants wearing falangs look like fools. If you have no self respect, fine. Walk around in a jock strap. Make a ******* of yourself.
It's hardly reproach. In many countries throughout the world children wear shorts. Once one becomes an adult, I. E. "grown," one no longer wears them.
You're nuts, Phordphan. Are you from a country where men wear wigs and those fluffy shirts?

I observed a couple of guys with shorts sternly told they had to cover their legs before they could enter the Wat Phra Si Rattanasadaram.

Spanky's nana plaza
The waitstaff at Spankys are the rudest in the plaza, however they appear to not care and get away with it. I reported a similar experience last year.
Johnie.
Agree. Rudest place I've ever been to in Thailand (gogo, that is). Consistently shitty. Hadn't been there in almost a year and had forgotten about this; went back last night and was immediately greeted by rude stuff being bitchy for no reason. Left and don't plan to ever return.
You're nuts, Phordphan. Are you from a country where men wear wigs and those fluffy shirts?
No, I live in the slobocracy of SoCal, where you can wear shorts for practically everything. However, apparently unlike you, I have traveled to places outside the USA and the farang ghettoes of BKK. I'm hard pressed to think of any country where shorts are considered proper attire when not in a beach setting. Exceptions exist, but they are just that; exceptions.
I don't care what anybody wears, but if one dresses like farang kee nok then one should expect to be treated as such.
Women prefer well dressed well groomed men. And the hookers we are interested in are women.
The same discussions tend to resurface over and over again. How to dress in Bangkok and whether it matters is one example. I think everyone should dress as he feels comfortable, physically and socially. I'm going on 64. I don't feel comfortable dressing like a 25 year old. However, I noticed some nicely dressed mature men in Bermudas and know it is hot in the spring so am going to buy some nice shorts for my May trip.
Also, my overwhelming experience is the ladies respond favorably to smart casual attire, taking them to clubs and nice restaurants popular with Thais, and letingt them feel like they are on a real date. I do this because I enjoy doing it, and because I'm an average looking older man. I'm not going to sweep a lady off her feet with youthful good looks. But I can make a good impression by acting like a worldly older gentleman.
There are sex workers who are hardened mercenaries who only care about your money. Especially in Bangkok I've encountered many sex workers who like being out with a man who has made an effort to look good for them and treat them nicely. My experiences are a woman who has managed to retain her natural femininity is conditioned to try harder to please a man who acts like a gentleman and tries to make the evening fun for her. Woman like to dress up. The woman I do outcalls with fix up with fresh makeup and a nice sexy dress; and they smile favorably when they see I've taken the effort to shower, shave, put on a nice aftershave balm and dress nicely.
But as they ladies say, "Up to you. ".
