Myself I only felt a minor queasiness sometimes during my hiv-prep and doxycycline period, but nothing much. In my case I speculated it could have been because I was drinking a fair amount of coffee as usual, which the usage docs says can increase stomach upset when combined with doxycycline, but the symptoms was so minor that I didn't bother quitting the coffee to see if that would improve things.

For my next sex-vacation I'll probably add anti hsv-2 tablets too, to reduce the risk of that. Somebody else here (thanks) made me aware there are strains of hsv-2 that are apparently producing symptoms a lot worse than just some cold-sore like blisters once or twice a year.

And it is also true that every known side effect has to be included in the list no matter how unlikely it is. So I guess the only way to find out for yourself is to try. Doxycycline I had once for days for malaria prevention but I didn't notice any side effects. Of course the dosage for malaria is pretty small. Someone also mentioned difficult HSV-2. I got HSV-1 to my penis in 2010. The first outbreak was bad and then maybe the following year I had another one and possibly a third one later. Now I haven't seen or felt anything from HSV in 15 years. Either the virus is gone or sleeping without any outbreaks so for me it was actually nothing. Maybe HSV-1 does not thrive downstairs? Maybe Thai population on average about 1% of them of have HIV but in bar girls, freelancers and prostitutes it could be a lot higher like 5-10% so calculations change a lot. Many people don't have sex with "average person". Also if the partner has an HI virus it depends on which state it is how likely you are to get it. And of course the medication being used if any. So the real risk in many situations might be a lot higher.

I read about one man from my country who only had sex with condoms. Once his condom broke with one girl and he got infected with HIV. So how unlikely would that be if barebacking vaginal sex wouldn't be risky? Everyone always wins a lottery.

I think the daily dose of doxy for malaria prevention is exactly also 100 MG. So if you are mongering in a malaria risk country you might also prevent STDs. Actually we were thinking about that and talking about when we were as young men traveling with my friends in Cambodia in 2010. We were taking daily doxy for malaria as described by our doctors. And we were joking that "now we can't get chlamydia". So it might have actually been more than a joke.

At face value the infectious disease model of illness does seem to carry weight. Bad bugs get into our system and wreak havok, cause problems, and require proper treatment "of course". After all look how things get better when we take antibiotics. Look how society was improved by vaccination programs. Look how much safer we have become by tracking to the nth degree every epidemic with rapid testing. Look how the doctors have saved so many lives from the ravages of communicable disease.

At least this is the standard modern day model. These "pathogens" are so very dangerous and we require more and more tech and intervention to treat and prevent, to wit: the latest iteration, mRNA vaccines. There has been a multi-generation campaign to hammer this home in the minds of the public. After all it is quite a lucrative model indeed! I am not even alleging it is a "conspiracy". It's just the natural behavior of a regime to solidify it's philosophical underpinnings so as to secure its power. Nothing mysterious.

Because many "pathogens" are observable, it is an easy matter to project blame. Somehow some fuzzy electron microscope pics of some lumps on a cell has become proof of a virus.

Stand up at an infectious disease symposium and start questioning the model. . . See how long you last. Why was it that Pasteur could not provoke an infection by transferring bacteria from organism to organism until toxins will added as well? Likewise provoking an immune response to a vaccine.

Are there times when the detoxification process is running rampant and becomes dangerous? Of course. Someone in septic shock is dangerously close to death. The inflammatory response needs to be suppressed and their vitals stabilized. But let's not forget that we have suppressed a detoxification event and so these individuals actually need future support to facility detoxification over time.

So largely an "infection" is a happy day, for in the vast majority of cases it will run it's course and the individual will be cleaner and healthier for it.
