A friendly smile and an honest "thank you" still go a long way in Thailand.

In my first question, I was wondering primarily if I should stay in a hotel close to either Nana (NEP) or Soil Cowboy (SC) so as to minimize the walking distance for a girl I might bring back. In my research going back a few years here and there, the consensus has oscillated as to which is the best overall place, with many today saying they are both bad. Note: I am not to mongering. I am a senior member in the USA section and have spent many hours in Pahrump and Carson City. But mongering in Thailand is different! I have to assume that for a first timer one place may be slightly less overwhelming than the other.

Factors that might come into consideration are the type of girl I would be looking for (18-28, upper end of the looks scale, tight and toned); where there are fewer LBs to have to worry about; where there may be less harassment from the girls, bouncers, mamasan's, etc; where there is less risk of scamming; where there might be some expats to seek refuge with; etc.

I do plan on exploring both areas, and which ever place I visit the first night I would visit the other the next night, so perhaps it is not a big deal.

FYI, my tentative arrival date into BKK will be around April 15.

IMHO you'll be hard pressed to find lots of 18-28 tight toned long-haired beauties. But maybe you enjoy the hunt. There are a lot fewer LBs in SC. NEP is probably 50% LB. Maybe not, but it does seem that way at times. NEP has something like 5 LB bars, SC has one. There is no place free of scams. Don't worry about bouncers unless you intend to get drunk and make a spectacle of yourself. Expats to hang out with may be a problem. Fewer and fewer expats hang out at go-go bars, so you'll probably have to start looking in the smaller venues, beer bars, etc. You can try striking up a conversation with the farang at the adjacent table, although that is really hit and miss. SC is no longer the quiet soi, full of expat-supported watering holes, that it once was.

If you must come in mid-April, either come before Songkran, so you can get situated and then enjoy the fiasco (everybody should experience it once). Or, wait until after the 15th when things get back to normal.

Don't worry too much about LBs. They have separate bars in NEP and Soi Cowboy, you won't find them mixed in with the girls like in Patpong.

It's indeed not a big deal which area you visit first.

And about arriving around April 15: just google 'Songkran' and then reschedule your flight, LOL! You don't want to be there then, at least that's my opinion.

One is never too old to repeat same mistakes. After 24 hour voyage to Bangkok I decided to get shitfaced on Thai whiskey. Because of the proximity of my hotel to the Nana entertainment complex, I did not have to go far. Somehow, I managed to miss the plaza and pick up a girl on the street. Best to my recollection she was in her early 20's, had a great firm body with a bush and thicker thighs. I did not see an ounce of fat on her. Unfortunately, the alcohol interfered with a happy ending. My second day was much better. Decided to walk to soi Cowboy and check out Suzi Wong go go bar to see some nudity. I was surprised at the number of nice looking girls and bodies. Everybody was nice including the mamasan. I bought her a drink and she gave me a hand massage while the girl of my choosing was massaging Mr. Johnson and she was proudly showing the results of her handy work. One early afternoon, around 1:15 PM, I was just out of Bamboo Massage after a 2-hour adventurous 3-shot experience, feeling kinda empty and numb, and the idea of making a visit to Som's Haven suddenly came into my mind. All in all, good experience. Nice and clean place, Small but quality line-up, and friendly behavior are what I liked from my experience. On the downside, girl's neck pain killed off part of my mood which she made up for in the boom-boom part, and IMHO, the type and placement of sofas in the room was not ideal for sex at all.

As to age and beauty of the girls, there is something for all tastes in both areas. I have always had good service from the somewhat less young and anyhow, if she looks 25 she is probably 30 (at least).

My best fare from Tulip to Lat Krabang was 160 baht. I was stunned. My worst was 370 baht from lat krabang to Annies. Meter the first time, fixed rate the second time.

It's best to look in several bars, and decide what you like, yourself. In Nana I would look Rainbow 4, Candyland 2 (I know a very toned girl there that performs), Spankies, and Angel Witch.

At Cowboy, look in Crazy House, Long Gun, Suzie Wong, Doll House, Tilac, Sharks, Baccara. The first 4 listed will have complete nudity at times, which is why I prefer them. I don't actually like Sharks or Bacarra as there is too much fake noses, fake tits, etc. Girls don't even look particularly Thai with all the alterations. There is a shortage of toned girls in Suzi Wong and Doll House. A few too many fatties, but some okay.

Sometimes its more about having favourite girls rather than favourite bars. Start in bars early. Good girls get booked early.

Thanks[/QUOTE]If you are traveling light "one largish bag and a backpack" which you are, I would take the airport rail link (train). It costs 45 baht, less than $2 USD. But it also depends what time you are arriving in BKK, the airport train starts at 6 am to midnight.

At the airport after you get out of customs / immigration, you take the escalators down below like everyone else, then go one level below the street and that's where the train is. There is not a lot of people when you get on, you get your choice seat.

You take that train and head for Makkasan Station. At Makkasan station, you can get a taxi for a very short ride to either Nana or Soi Cowboy area. Yes that airport rail will get crowded as the train makes it's stops, but you got on at the beginning so, you have a seat.

That's what I did, wasn't hard at all and saved my money for the chicks.

Though as many here have said: the taxi fare is 10 dollars. Are you really going to want to after a long plane ride put yourself through this aggravation to save a hundred or so baht.

I know you can grab the subway for around 20 baht but you've got to stand in line with your luggage to get a ticket (assuming you don't have one of those automatic cards yet). Its around 500 baht for a taxi from the airport directly to your hotel, you can close your eyes and take a nap if your tired after a long flight. Saving 400 baht isn't worth the extra effort after i've been on a ten hour flight. And im guessing you might ask the taxi driver to swing by a 7-11 on the way into town if your thirsty.
