Try this place, Thai run very friendly. The chap who owns it is called Tuy. Prices 600 to 900 bht. Best rooms are at the front.
Very close to the action, 50 yards from Soi Eric.

I always stay at the Boomerang Inn. It's only about a 3 minute stroll from the beach and is located in a quieter area. Close, but not too close to the noisy mongering area, about 7 minute walk. Pattaya and Phuket are both great places to visit. I normally do 5 days in each place. Pattaya is bigger with tons of bars but it's not as clean or scenic as Phuket. Phuket is more expensive but I think it's worth it. Start out with a bang and go to Pattaya first, then fly down to Phuket (1.10 min flight from Bangkok). Pattaya has many more singles, where Phuket is more family orientated.

To get to Pattaya from Phuket you will need to fly to Bangkok (1 hour 15mins) and then get a cab to Pattaya, roughly 2 hours and a fare of about 1200 baht.

I think there is a way to fly from Pattaya to Phuket with Bangkok Airways. No need to go back to BKK, but they might have a stopover in Samui, which is on the flightpath anyway, and a great destination on its own.
