How to look inconspicuous
I have been living here nearly a year now and have posted a few times. The same questions keep coming up and they've all already been answered, pretty much: I personally wouldn't just be visiting and renting a car, unless you really are accustomed to exceptionally bad driving conditions. Certainly taking local buses is about the most hazardous act one could commit. Prices for most things, except beer, are more than the DR, and quality of 'holidaying' not as good. Sounds like the quality of ladies could be better, but id be judicious in that regard. Yeah, Haiti's still pretty bad place for 'better beaching', and relative to PaP, fairly little mongering action. Don't come looking or acting too lost or conspicuouis, s'il vous plait. Pretty hard to get around very much beyond Pietonville w/out French or Kreole, and only 10% speak French. Of course i find i don't have to bother w/entirely uneducated ladies here, either. I don't know what else to tell you...yeah, Haiti's 'great', but act smart and keep it on the low.
Hi, I, and others, would be interested in knowing what you mean by looking conspicuous. Obviously, one should not go around in a suit totting expensive camera equipment, especially at night, especially in Cité Soleil but, honestly, just being white in an all-black country marks you out to begin with. What should we do, dress down? Tank shirts or old T-shirts in lieu of Lacoste shirts? Baseball hats instead of more elegant headgear? Grungy shorts instead of smart slacks? I know that in some countries, people are advised to dress down at airports so that later you are not marked out as being a rich target to shake down ... or worse.
Badbear insists that I shouldn't worry about security there as I suppose he has it figured out . I trust him and hope for the best.
I have travelled wide but I have survived hitherto because I am very cautious and seem have the requisite street smarts, so far at least. In any case, I would just like your informed opinion.
Emerald green with undying envy
Papio170, these pics are for you. I just wanted everyone to see a sample of the torture David and I are going through interviewing these disgusting Haitian girls. I know if you are truly our friends you are probably in tears wanting to save us from them with your help.
Wow, BadBear, you've got me salivating already! As for myself, I am in tears not out of pity but because I am not already over there.
Is the last girl a Haitian? Very much on the light side.
Anyway, keep it up!!! M vle alle Ayiti kounye-a pou vwe fanm yo!
Help from the Haiti Members on this site
I am almost sold on making my first trip to haiti after viewing those lovely pic from bad bear. I have a 1 week vacation starting April 4 to 11. Will there be any other members there at that time. Also more importantly can someone give me a pick up from the airport or give me a good contact to drive me to the hotel. You can send me the information through private message or I can contact you.
I can be bad bears first recruit to his beloved country.
Any reports on the interviewees yet?
Just a shoutout to David33 and Badbear to see how the interviewed girls are doing and if there are any pictures of them to be had.
My curiosity is getting the best of me.
