I get by fine on 1/10th that budget and wouldn't even give Tony the tout a second look. My first trip to Ctg he tried befriending me and I just ignored him.

Cartagena Part II
I crashed out just after the girls left at maybe 9:00pm. I then woke up fairly early, and to my surprise, without a hangover.
Someone had approached me a couple days before about taking a boat trip out to the islands. I decided since it was a nice clear morning I would explore that option. I called up the 3 girls I had the orgy sex with and invited them to come sailing which of course they all quickly agreed on. I then called the guy about the boat tour.
Normally they sell package types of tours where they take groups of people to the islands for a day and come back in the evening. But I never like taking trips with the commoners so I asked if the guy knew about a private boat we could get for the day. A few calls were made and finally I was told to show up at the marina to meet someone I will refer to as Captain Joe.
Captain Joe is an American who has a fairly good sailing boat. He agreed to take me and the girls out all day on the boat for what I thought was a reasonable sum. He asked me not to write about what he charges or who exactly he is for reasons I am also not going to explain. I will say though that Captain Joe is a swell guy.
I got the girls to come directly to the marina and we went a sailing. First thing I did was go down into one of the sleepers and had a blow job contest. This memory has been burned into my mind forever.

I do not know how true this was but I told him to meet me at the apartment in 30 minutes.

Naturally they were talking about the usual things; girls, how the economy is fucked up and how Bush ruined the world. I had already told the girl I was an American but now I was wishing I said something else like I was British. After some time they broke out into a conversation on how to fix the economy. It would seem every poor piece of shit American has a big grandiose theory on how to fix the economy. Maybe we should fire all the accountants, economists, big player investors.ya fire them all- and put some of the uneducated American sex tourists in charge of the global meltdown. I am sure things would be rolling like the 1980s in no time.
One of them started with the "its the war" crap or the usual "Bush did (enter anything here)". Guys, I am going to let you in on a little secret. The meltdown started because some years ago the government thought it was a good fucking idea to give out sub prime loans to poor ass motherfuckers like yourselves who could not afford to pay the fucking loans back. When the economy slowed all you assholes could no longer make payments, and now, people like me who have real money and real investments are suffering. I have always said let the fucking poor live on the street like they do in Colombia. If you are too fucking stupid to make enough money to pay for your house then you do not deserve one.
Now I am on vacation with a super beautiful girl and have to listen to the poor ass gringos talking crap about the economy that they fucked up. I saw a couple of police officers walking down the street with automatic riffles. I visualized myself running over to one, grabbing his gun, then running back to the restaurant and shooting everyone one of the Wal-Mart gringos: BANG! BANG! BANG! Take that you fucking trailer park white trash shit who fucked up the US economy! BANG! HA HA HA! Just like in the last scenes of Scarface! Say Hello, to my little friend! B-B-BANG! But of course that would have fucked up my eating so I only allowed the idea to pass through my imagination.
One of the guys had a tattoo that read "New York". I always had a special dislike for people who put the location where they live on their arm. Do they do it in case they forget where they live? Or is it to help the police get information when they get arrested? Another one had one of those hipster goatee things growing on his face probably because he could not afford a razer. But the worse of the bunch of the complete loser with the Che tshirt. It is like saying "hey, look at me, I am COOL because I have a fellow South American on my tshirt. " Well, moron, it is people like Che that kept Colombia in a state of civil conflict for 50 years. I hope some not so friendly paracos see you some night walking around with that tshirt on. If so, some of the things I see in my imagination might become your reality.
Anyway, my babe was giving me a big friendly smile so I quickly forgot about the Wal-Mart convention beside me. We ate and walked back to the apartment holding hands. She really was a sweet thing.
By the time we got back to the apartment I think I had fell in love. I kept her for the next three days. She was an all around babe and as sweet as any girl I have ever met. The idea of a bunch of unbathed gringos pawing her makes me sick to my stomach but that is probably her destiny. She never asked me about money in all those days. But she did say she was only going to work in Cartagena until she could save up a couple million pesos. My flight was scheduled to go to Medellin on the day I said goodbye to her. I hope she went back to Medellin as well.

HOTEL: stay in El Centro at Santa Clara, or at any other Boutique 5-star hotels there. They are charming, in colonial style. Choose a suite for >500USD/day. You can feel the atmosphere of the colonial times there. You can enjoy champagne in your suite, with a dream girl that really does not spoils herself with Tony.
RESTAURANTS: forget Bogagrande and Riquisimo. Ask the concierge. In the 50-100USD range, you'll enjoy classy restaurants (for example Vitrola, but not only that one), in a relaxing environment, with high-class tourists and Colombianos. Food in Cartagena can be extremely good.

[/QUOTE]I've never had problem in either CTG or other cities I've been in (except for shakedowns by the cops, looking for drugs, and probably bribes), but my approach is to start out at market prices, then if she does really well en la cama, give her a nice tip, and never be flashy. I've given big tips before, such as described below, but usually a day before I'm leaving the country.
From what I gather reading the Medellin Mansion forum, someone's well-known wealth and his proclivity to spread it around in poorer areas may have been a cause for the robbery.
