I think it's on Mabini, roughly between LA Cafe and G point. It's worth taking a look, but I would NOT expect too much. When they had dancers they weren't allowed to bar fine, and last time I was there, the dancers had disappeared. There were p4p women inside, but not very good quality.

It might be the kind of place to go for a quiet beer, watch the big screen, play a game of pool...and if you get lucky, you'll see someone of interest.

You would probably be better off hitting Amazon and G Point if you want a LA cafe alternative.

It is about 1/2 block up from Amazonia same side of the street. Basically the same format as Amazonia. Unfortunately, not the same format as Butterfly which used to be right next to Amazonia.

But if you are brave or adventurous enough:

The locals are really bad drivers; they turn left from the right land, right from the left, the stop in the middle of the road for no apparent reason. When they flash their lights at you it generally means get out of their way, regardless of who has the right of way. Directionals are something they use only to fake you out, but frequently these, and brake lights, don’t work anyway. They are great at turning 3 lanes into 5. Traffic signs are confusing, missing, in the wrong place, hidden, and traffic lights often don't work. If a policeman is drecting draffic, it will be a real mess. And watch out for the trucks and buses, the rule of the road is that the larger vehicle wins.

But they generally drive slowly so you can work with all this. Try to keep a sense of humor. In fact, if you are in a hurry, assuming traffic is not bumper to bumper, it can be a bit of a slalom. Be careful on EDSA as from time to time, and with no warning, lanes just end. If you don’t see it coming you might just run into the elevated train pillar.

One of the most frustrating regular occurances is when Filipino drivers fill up the left turn lane (when there is one) then the lane to the right of it and then to the right of that, until the whole road is blocked with people turning from the wrong lane. This also happens with the buses on EDSA. At strategic points along the way they get 3 deep and then when they pull out they block the whole highway, making a real mess.

The biggest risk though is the police. There are several different services so it is hard to know who is pulling you over, and if it happens you probably won’t know why. Sometimes it is making a forbidden turn, though the sign may be absent or hidden behind a tree, or going the wrong way down a one way street, though it looks two way, you were following others in the same direction and in fact it may only be one way during certain hours, which are arbitrarily determined based on how far it is to pay day. Try arguing that it is not marked as one way and they will tell you that anyway everyone knows. Afterwards you may find a faded, well hidden and ambiguous sign. But usually they just want a bribe, which for locals is a hundred pesos or so. For you it is likely to be PHP1, 500 or 2, 000. Sometimes the cop will even have a printed "schedule" of bribes. Just ask if you can pay the fine "now". Alternatively, or if you get an honest cop, they will take your driver’s license. You are supposed to go to the police station to pay the fine and pick it up. This can really mess up your travels if it happens say on a Friday night and they tell you to come get it on the Monday, but your flight is Sunday. It is best to travel with two copies of your license and just abandon one if you have to. Don't try to give them an expired license, they check for this. I have only had this problem in Manila, not out in the provinces.

In fact most trips out of town are quite good. The roads north to Subic or Angels, once off EDSA, are very good and well signed. You should have little problem. Southbound there is a lot of road work and traffic can be a *****. Even if you don’t speak Tagalog, you should be fine, and maps are reasonably easy to get at most gas stations or National Book Store.

I have had a few very minor accidents. Usually in slow moving traffic someone looses focus and eases into you. Generally no real damage has been done. Once in Angeles I was moving slowly and looking to my right when someone gong in the other direction turned right in front of me. I hit him going very slowly, maybe 5 miles an hour. It was clear that I had the right of way and that he should not have turned, but still, there was damage to his car and none to mine. I was the foreigner. Soon a policemen was there and looking at me like I was lunch. I pointed out that, and the cars were still in position, the other guy was in the wrong place and facing the wrong direction, so was in the wrong. After a few minutes of arguing my case but not really getting anywhere, I remembered that I was not supposed to be in Angeles in the first place, I should find a way to leave quietly with as little foot print as possible. I offered the other drive a crisp $100 bill. All was forgiven and I was free to go. The cop looked a bit surprised, and was probably disappointed that I did not perservier long enough for him to negotiate something for himself as well.

You can’t make this stuff up and you have to see it to belive it.

Hi guys, Paid my first return visit to the LA Café yesterday after several months enforced absence in boring old Blighty. On last visit to Manila I suddenly found thanks to a plane delay that I had an "enforced" one day delay in Manila.
