Not just in mongering, but in any social situation. How often do people cancel on short notice with a lame excuse? How often have you cancelled because you didn't want to do whatever someone had planned? Or because something better came up?

Why should the girls be any different? Forty minutes in a taxi to spend an hour with some guy she probably would rather not see, then another long taxi ride, doesn't stand a chance when her best friend shows up with money and wants to party. Or when her boyfriend drops by. That's not a judgement on whether or not the girls want to see you. Just an observation that most mongers don't look like the guys these girls normally hang out with.

We all should know by now that many Colombians don't like to give a direct "no" answer. It's easier to say "yes" and then come up with an excuse later.

Of course there are real reasons why girls don't show up. I remember one girl wanting to wait until the rain stopped. It didn't make sense to me, until I learned she had to walk about 10 blocks down some steep hills, just to get a taxi. Girls cancel because they can't find someone to watch the kids or because someone else stuck them with watching their kids. Not all the excuses are bull.

My choice is to not let anyone ruin my night. If I'm not getting a response, I send a message with a time limit for a response. If I don't get an answer I send a "sorry, but something came up. You didn't answer, so I assume you won't be here on time. I'm leaving now. Maybe we can try another day" message. No need to be rude or nasty. Just cancel and move on to someone else.

I may be wrong, but I'm going to assume the girl didn't just block you for no reason. She probably had a reason for not showing up (maybe a good reason, maybe a crap reason). I'm just guessing that your reaction to her not showing up may have offended her.

If you're picking girls off the street, in the casas or the strip clubs, it's a simple business transaction. They're at work, you're a customer. The customer service may not be the best, but you'll usually get the minimum you paid for.

If you're getting women from social media, there's a constant trade-off. They're also picking you. They're getting input from your social media, from their friends and from your interaction. In my opinion, you can get a better experience this way, but there are obstacles.

Colombia seems to be heading to civil war. The old days may return. Lets enjoy while we can.

Municipal elections are held every four years -- still have until Oct 27 to add to that number.

Seems like the rebel groups are ramping up violence as of late. That said, this shouldn't affect any of us staying in Poblado, Laureles, or Envigado.

I am coming to Medellín next week for the first time and would welcome advice on the following.

1) I have IPhone & IPad Pro with service through ATT. Text messages to my phone forward to my IPad which is convenient. It is my understanding that these devices will not work with the cellular network in Medellín? A gentleman on this forum suggested I buy a Samsung J3 prime here before departure but I'm having trouble finding one that is truly unlocked & new. I also understand that WhatsApp will be my primary means of communication. I have it on my IPhone but assume that number won't work when I get to Medellín?

Q: can I buy a phone in Medellín from the service provider at a reasonable price? Will the IPhone and IPad work with local wi-fi?

2) I am attending Toucan Spanish Language school near Parque El Poblado for 6 weeks. Any recommendations for Lodging would be most welcome. Looking for 3 star or 4 star level, either hotel or Apartment.

3) I opened an account on SA, mostly looking for bi-lingual GF for my stay. I'm an older guy and not a party animal, preferring genuine passion and talent over youth and smoking hot. I typically like and have had good relations with late 20's to early 40's gals. Do you recommend that I also utilize another platform (other than Facebook). I don't trust or care for FB. I would also welcome any bilingual contacts you would be comfortable sharing.

A lot of people will be offended by this as it would be a form of indecent exposure. I could easily see the Police stopping somebody wearing this. And if you were on the Metro wearing it, it might cause an uprising with some of the riders.

Probably the most appropriate place to don this would be walking the gauntlet in El Centro. The Trannies would go ape shit upon seeing somebody wearing it and start hooting and hollering like a bunch of apes!

I think the idea is the chaos and violence similar to the years when the FARC were more active would curtail gringo tourism. To take it a step further, I assume, the thinking is fewer gringos would improve our scene.

I am not there and I cannot claim to be an expert but from what I have read 80% of FARC still wants peace and a few bad actors who are calling for a new insurgency are considered narco terrorist at this point. It looks like and we can hope that it will be comparative to when the UK made peace with the IRA, there were still fringe groups within the IRA that wanted to fight on but the majority wanted to live a normal life. I say again, I am no expert but I hope this is more than wishful thinking.

Killing of politicians is not a good thing for Colombia given the transformation that has taken place in the Country over the last decade. But having made 7 subsequent trips I hardly ever go there now. The places is noisy, expensive, crowded, packed with tourists, and any chicas you meet while freestyling demand outrageous fees. Transportation in Medellin is cheap. Use airbnb and rent an apartment on the outskirts of Poblado. Much cheaper and you're still close enough to the action.

Of all the girls I met only one of them could speak English worth a damn, and she later ghosted me. I've seen a few on Tinder but they rarely match and when they do they always demand premium prices. I heard SA is the same. If you absolutely have to have a bilingual puta that's probably your best bet. But it's far easier just to learn some basic Spanish before your trip and use Google translate when needed.
