Food?? I think you're about 30 years out of date on the development schedule, JB. These girls go into hooking because it is big money and very easy work, not because they can't get enough to eat from regular jobs. The big money pays for a fun lifestyle, drugs, etc. Food is not a problem in this rather prosperous country.

I would agree with you in general, but I have had a couple of educated middle class girlfriends who I never, ever gave any money in a total of 2-3 years of dating (between the two). We even normally went dutch on meals (American shares), and though on a couple of occasions one borrowed a couple of grand from me, it was promplty repaid while on other occasions I borrowed far more from her (5-10K!). It really comes down to the fact that they had more money than me, so I really wasn't a customer.

But I still think the best insight into a Thai working girl's mentality is the late Jack Reynolds' book Woman of Bangkok. The whole middle section is written from the point of view of a bar girl back in the late 1950s, and it's almost frightening how much still feels exactly the same, 50 years later.

However My (global) company has a plant in Thailand.
There are some expats around.
Over the years it can be expected, regardles off the home country of the expats, the private live of all Thailand plant expats leads to a 80% to close to 100% divorce rate.
I have to admit (and this is what I get, not beeing one of the Thailand expats) that with a 80% divorce rate a 100% girlfriend rate is likely.

Same divorce rate happens in Brazil for expats with assignment there.

0% divorce rate happens for expats going to the US.

It has to do something with LOS.

The economic situation in Asia has caused this situation and the rest of the world (males like us) is happy to exploit it.
