Damn, it's the weekend, my first real night of summer bachelor days, I've sent the maid to stay with her cousins, and now I just feel like having a quiet night at home alone (a rare treat for me) and reading a good book! :(

So I went down the the batcave-like nightclub, anticipated having to argue with the manager at the door about entry fee, but he let me straight in with a smile. There was a reason for that. Only guys in there, many of them sadly drooped over the circular bar, hugging their drinks and thinking about how life could have been. The place was nothing like the crazy Russian girl place it used to be, like a poor man's cyclone. Now it was:

No girls!

I did the circuit and walked straight back out, and asked the doorman what happened, saying I used to come here a few years ago and it was always busy. He said that a few months ago, they stopped letting "the girls" into the hotel clubs on police orders. He added with a straight face "It's much better here now". I replied "Oh yes, oh yes it is, see ya" and walked away with tears in my eyes as I remembered the good old days there.

Back in the car and into the traffic-choked streets of Deira, where I headed in the general direction of the infamous Broadway Hotel. I wasn't out for a shag tonight, due my afternoon punishment :), but I wanted to check Broadway for future reference. No luck, I was driving around in circles and couldn't find it.

So I kept my eyes open for landmarks that would help me find my other original Dubai hunting ground: Garage Nightclub. Used to be some of the hottest girls in town there, and I could at least take a few phone numbers. Still no luck. I have a terrible sense of direction, especially while driving. Just to remind myself of my poor sense of direction, I found myself lost in the narrow little maze-like streets in the middle of old Deira-town behind the gold markets. For about 15 minutes I was looking for a way out of the maze, until I finally found a main street next to the abra (water taxi) station.

Soon enough I found myself on Maktoum bridge heading for more familiar territory of Bur Dubai and the Golden Triangle. So "Plan B from Outer Space" was to head to Seaview Hotel and have a chat with the unusual-looking but young and sweet Sasha, and maybe arrange for her to come to my place tomorrow night. As I headed down Bank Street, I saw Seaview, but had to make a few turns to get to it.

Believe it or not, I got lost in the back Streets of Bur Dubai, and accidentally found myself driving past Imperial Suites. So, Imperial Suites it was. After trying to park for 15 minutes, I found a nearby paid parking lot. I walked to Imperial Suites, but even at 1:00am, there was a queue of about 20 hot sweating guys arguing with the doormen to get in. I saw some ugly Chinese girls in black abayas coming out with some local guys (do Chinese girls really think they look like locals when wearing abayas???)

"Fuck this", I politely said to myself, and limped back towards the carpark. As I approached the carpark, I saw Panorama Hotel a few blocks away, so decided to hobble over for a look. I walked in and Man! it was a nightmare. From the entrance, I could see it was 95% men, and the over-crowded room was thick with smoke, and thin with unattractive fat girls. I said to myself "Be fair Piper, do a circuit and you might find a gem or two". I did the circuit, but didn't find a gem, so it was straight out the door again. I walked upstairs to the pool-table nightclub (I think it used to be called "Fire and Ice", but it's now called "Infinity", and there used to be some cute girls there. There was a Russian Band with a few cute blonde singer/dancers, but the dance floor was full of local guys doing a traditional tribal dance, forming a circle with their arms around each other, as the girls in the band watched in boredom. The problem was:

No girls!

So I left straight away, went across the street to the Music Room in Majestic Hotel to chill out over a game of pool about 1:30am. Picked up my Ethiopian regular in Deira last night and ventured over to the Seaview to watch the band. Got to the door to be told that no black girls allowed inside. This ironically from the black guy working the door. Explained that she was my girlfriend and that we were in there last week but still not allowed in. New policy for some reason. 8.30 Started off in civilian territory with a few beers before heading over to Bur Dubai. 10.30 WQandered into the Music Room at the Majestic. There seems to be more WG in there each time I go. Lot of Filipina but most appeared to be civilians. Also Ethiopians, PRC and possibly CIS around the pool tables. It used to be a safe place to take my missus but not so sure now. Was just there for the music really but come midnight decided to head over to the Ratsky as never been there before.

Absolutely packed and very difficult to move about. It is also hard to tell the WG from the civilians. Ended up stood next to 3 girls and started a chat. [i]Tourism chief vows to take action

Dubai: Dubai's tourism chief on Sunday promised his department will take action if it receives complaints of racism in the city's nightclubs.

A recent Gulf News polls found that 70 per cent of those visiting night clubs faced racial discrimination and were turned away by the bouncers posted at the gates.

Asked what steps Dubai was taking to crack down on such clubs, Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) Director-General Khalid Bin Sulayem said: "Leave the surveys [aside]. Give me someone with evidence or someone who [has] complaints ? we will deal with the issue right away."

He said DTCM had a separate section to deal with such complaints and those violating the rules would be fined.

A number of marketing staff responsible for promoting some of Dubai's mega real estate projects have revealed to Gulf News that one night club off Shaikh Zayed Road regularly bars people hailing from different backgrounds from entry on one pretext or another.

Once a group of 15 people, including Europeans and Arabs, from the company, were shocked to see their Indian colleague being stopped from entering the premises.

The bouncer was "being racist and had a supremacist attitude towards me," said the person, who is an American citizen.

"In their own countries these bouncers would think twice before indulging in such behaviour," he said, preferring to remain anonymous.

Threatened with loss of business, the executive assistant manager of the hotel, where the club is located, apologised for "the rude attitude shown by our security guard" and for "denying entry".

A senior executive from a property consulting firm observes that Dubai's cosmopolitan lifestyle attracts people from different countries and such incidents are unhelpful in promoting the city.

However, as she is only my summer batchelor girlfriend and my official wife is back in a couple of weeks I did not want to cause a scene. If I am there again this week without her I will probably ask to see the manager and ask about their recent change in policy. She had been with me twice out of the last three weekends and was obviously not working that night as with me. Maybe some of the punters in there have complained as the african girls can get a bit persistent/ annoying when they don't take no for an answer. Maybe someone else on this board has information on their policy and would be able to enlighten us.

After serious brunch, woke up at 12. Walked the dogs ordered pizza read the Gulf News and now at 1330, bored and hung-over, felt like snatch.
