I've had a few beggars that pestered me a bit, but not much. There's one kid selling candy that is annoying. Never had an issue with the streetwalkers. The ones that I did pick up there were mostly just sitting alone and would be making eye contact as I walked by. For a cheap price, one should not expect a sufficient quality to embark a flight in an airport, but for a quick check they are enough. "Fake cedulas" include also authentic documents but of another person, for example with an old photo, loosely similar to the girl who is carrying it.

If I could show you the photo I had on my old driver license (expired few years ago), taken when I got it for the first time (I was 19 yo), and compare it with my current face, you would understand what I mean. Photos on most picture IDs are old and depict a girl, dressed not really as the sexy bomb who is meeting you. No make up, different hair style, etc.

Relying on the cedula for safety issues (or even underrage, if you have this suspect) is not really enough.

PS: my wholehearted solidarity to JohnGault. It does not matter how "expert" or "street-smart" we believe we are, but we are always at risk. Something unforeseen may always happen. It never happened to me to be drugged*, and I strictly avoid to drink with girls when they offer out of a bar, but this does not mean I am not exposed to risk. When she registers I either go down to meet her in the lobby--that way, if I don't know her and don't like what I see in person I can just give her a quick 20 k and send her away in a taxi before she comes up-if I do know her, I let the desk send her up. Either way, I ask the hotel front desk to please call me in the room if / when they see her leaving the room without me-all of these hotels have cameras in the hallways and elevators--they know who is coming in and out and where people are.
