The second option, the party that resists the aggressor together with their allies make it impossible for the aggressor to continue fighting. The third options, both parties are bled dry and unable to continue, so the fighting stops with an armistice that freezes the conflict for the time being.

As for Donbas residents you're so concerned about, you're too late. There're almost no able men left, as they were all crippled or killed during the first year of war after having been sent to the frontlines to their imminent deaths or disfigurements.
