Wow, finally a straight forward report with sensible reflection and recommendations. Excellent first post. Welcome to the forum.
My recent experience was similar to yours. In addition, though, I would recommend that you and any others actually stay at the ABC. Its a nice oasis of luxury and cleanliness in an area that often. Isn't. The rooms are relatively plush, and its nice to go up to the pool anytime you want. The massages at the spa are also a total bargain. I had a 90 minute massage everyday. And from what I hear, the girls like going there. It doesn't change the liklihood that a lady will come with you or not, but I suspect that you might get better performance with a better, more luxurious vibe. Can't beat the hottub in the room. Its pricier than the other hotels, but not too pricey overrall. And when I walked past the other hotels, they didn't seem inviting.
My only concern about public swimming pools is the universal standard water composition formula, which was also recently confirmed in an episode of South Park: 50% water and 50% pee. If it's not my own where only friends and family pee, I'm not using it, unless somehow forced to do it by the circumstances. The open sea is always a better option, as the sewage gets better diluted by the immense quantity of water, and the oysters and shrimp do their job on filtering it.
