Dubai - Hotel Information

Last week I stayed in the Ibis Hotel, right on the exhibition centre at World Trade Centre. The location is prime, but that's about all I can recommend about it. The rooms are small and the facilities minimal. Typical budget Ibis.

Regarding 'guests'. When I asked the porter, I was told that the girl had to have ID. Passport, driving license or equivalent. He was ambiguous regarding photocopies of passport. However, when I trolled in later that night with a honey, no security was in sight. I'd been listening to the band in Seaview (what's the Seaview like for 'guests'?) with Bravo and Piper (sorry about 'poaching' Bravo, I had no idea she had already made a deal with you). We just walked straight to the lifts on the right, avoiding the front desk. No problems.

If you are staying in Dubai for a major exhibition, then the location is very good, right on top of the Convention Centre. Otherwise, my advice is to look elsewhere. I mean, they don't even a have a minibar ! :)

Is the Seaview guest friendly? Where is it located? I hear a lot about the club in the FR section but have never heard anything about the hotel itself. Thank you.

I was staying at a cheap hotel in Bur Dubai, and showed up drunk with an Kazakh girl.

The guy at the front desk was fairly polite, but just said "is not possible". And there were signs throughout the hotel advising of this also. I'd hoped my status as the only Westerner staying in the hotel, and also the only person who seems to tip, would have modified this policy.

I went up to my room, leaving her in the lobby, used my bathroom, then came back down; I should have just gone to sleep, I was that drunk, but I was thinking with the wrong head.

0400 is NOT the time to try to find a hotel; Dallas was full (suggested by the girl) and another one was 280 AED.

I ended up going to her "friend's" place, for AED 200, which was a bad idea, sigh.

New rule: no mongering with BAC >0.20.

I remember someone posting info in response to my asking about Meridien Hotel, but I cannot find the reply now (there was information about a nice and easy exit from Jules Bar to the elevators to the rooms, etc).

If you posted this info, could you re-post it please?

I've always found that it's a good idea to check with the bell boy, or concierge, when you check into the room to see what the hotel's policy is towards 'guests' will be. I had the misfortune to be staying at the Sea Shell one time and found out that female guests were not allowed at all costs. . . or maybe if I paid a lot extra and checked them in at the same time that I checked in. Not an option. That completely changed my point of view of mongering over that weekend. It's always best to check the territory before committing. . . at least that has been my (unfortunate) experience.

I dont know if I posted that specific info, but I did post about the Le Meridien Airport. It's girl-friendly all around, so You really dont need a super secret elevator to sneak anywhere.
(Unless you are drunk and she is dressed like a skanky ho:))

I am confirmed at Movenpick Hotel in Bur Dubai, near Wafi City. Any ideas if this is a friendly place? Any action in house?

Gulfro, The Movenpick has been reported to be semi-friendly.

I know people who have gotten hassled, and others who never had a problem. In its previous life as the Holiday inn, there was some action (a few CIS, 1-2 PRC) and the security guys by the elevator would just take a passport copy off the lady as you got in the elevator.

I suggest that if you are pulling from Cyclone, get back in time for last orders at the bar, this leaves you only about 25 meters to the elevators, then off to your room.

When you say Le Meridien airport do you mean the le meridien fairway as that hotel is friendly and fits the description of what tom was saying
