Hey guys I have a question for the lads with more experience in the Colombian "Market".
I've been talking / bbm'ing / msn'ing / calling to few girls from Cartagena and something very funny happened and it looks like a modus operandi. This is the deal.
After few days of talking and "liking" each other all the sudden they came up with a new msn email address. Asking me to delete the old one and add on the new one.
Because they forgot their password or got hacked.
That happened 3 times with 3 different chicas.

Please get you facts straight before you post things like insinuating kidnappings are a thing of the past "the FARC and to an extent the ELN have been (although that's really a thing of 15-20 years ago now)"
Kidnappings are alive and well in Colombia it's just that no high profile targets have been accosted YET but try and explain to any of the kidnapped oil workers families that they don't get the nationwide press notoriety because their husband was not "high profile and just an "oil worker"

Nowadays you have to go way out of your way into the boondocks to be at risk for that sort of thing.
The oil workers getting kidnapped do make the news here, but that's in an area so remote it's impossible to get there by accident. And if you're working for an oil company you better be used to danger the world over by now. If you're working up in northern Canada you could get fired on by one of the First Nations militia too.
I'm no expert, but if I was going to kidnap someone I think I would need to know some background info about my potential victim. Businessmen, corporate employees, baseball stars all sound like good pickings. Gringo monger in town for a week probably a waste of time. Anybody know how many Americans have actually been kidnapped the last few years whose only purpose was some fem attention? I'll guess close to nil.

Robberies should be a mongers biggest concern and while I am not trying to be a fear monger here, it is real and it is or should be on everyone's mind when walking the streets. Unfortunately too many guys think that because they haven't experienced it that it doesn't exist or that there is such a slim chance that it will happen to them that they let their guard down or even worse they write on the forum about how safe Colombia is, which in my opinion is doing first timers to the country an injustice.

ALWAYS call a taxi by phone when out partying in the richer areas at night, especially on the weekends ESPECIALLY around 10 or 11pm. And NEVER leave a drink unattended. I really don't recommend people coming here as tourists go out alone to places EXCEPT the actual brothels. But to the regular bars, it can be risky. I generally go to places where I know the owner and most of the staff, or if not I go in a group.
I see some logical fallacies in BC's post. If one is never to go to unknown places, how is one ever to get to know any owners? Similarly, if one is never to trust anyone, how does one agglomerate a group to go out with? Or to put it another way: your mother told you never to talk to strangers, so you never made any friends. I understand BC is addressing his advice to "tourists." What, exactly, is a "tourist"? A pure tourist would never be mongering, and a monger would never be a pure tourist.
Now BC does make some good points, albeit rather indirectly. The average touron (that is a cross between a tourist and a moron, for those who don't know the term) thinks the "safest thing to do" is to take a taxi. The truth is quite the contrary in most Latin American countries. The taxistas are the ones telling the chorros where the gringos are staying.
1) Never tell the taxi from the airport your real hotel. Have him drop you off at the next closest hotel.
1a) Don't take a taxi in the first place; take a bus and then a taxi and have him drop you off at the next closest hotel.
2) Never have the taxi drop you off in front of the puticlub. Have them drop you at a nearby public location.
"Always call a taxi by phone" is indeed excellent advice, UNLESS you speak no Spanish and have the club call one for you. Then you just fucked yourself. Have the number of an independent taxi service BEFORE you go out, and be prepared with the address of a nearby hotel that is NOT where you are staying. If no Spanish whatsoever, better off having the bartender call you a cab than the doorman.
If there is anyone else in the elevator, or even if there is not, punch the button for one or two floors above where you are really staying and walk down the stairs, after making sure the elevator is closed behind you. This is an excellent security procedure no matter where you are.
Regarding having your drink drugged: Yes, it's a good idea to cover your drink at all times, but that can seem suspicious. Certainly don't go to the head and leave your drink at your seat. The best thing is to be Irish and that way your drink will be empty so fast no one can drug it.
Never trust hotel safes. Someone has a key or the combination. If you DO trust them, change the combination every time you leave the room, and wipe the keypad clean.
Scan the declaration page of your passport, the visa page for your current entry, your driver's license, and a copy of your return ticket. Don't do this in your hotel if you can avoid it. Send these to your e-mail. DO NOT save them to your computer hard drive.
Think about what you have to lose. I am single and childless and old. Not so much to lose. If you have a family depending on you, don't even go to dangerous places like Colombia. Similarly think about that when deciding whether to resist a robbery. If I decide to risk taking someone down with me, that's different than if you decide to do it, and have a wife and kids to support.

A good friend of mine just posted on facebook to send her messages there because she was robbed. She is a dental student and 2 dudes on a moto robbed her at gunpoint and took her purse with everything in it on the autopista. It is a good spot for robberies because then they can just haul ass on the highway. She was more pissed of about having to replace her cedula more than her blackberry. But still the strength and bravery she showed me. So nonchalant. Other girls I know don't leave the house for a week after.

The chicas are very good at internet detective work, and they want to know "who is this chica, who is that chica".
They do not want you to "friend" another "friend" of theirs, and trade info on them, compare notes.
I've been busted a couple times this way, and I no longer do that social networking crap.
Conversely, I have received emails "STOP WRITING TO MY WIFE!"
Social Networks and PM-ing is a MAJOR security and privacy risk.
In their defense, it is very possible that if they go to an internet cafe and forget to properly logout, or forget to uncheck the "remember my password" box.
