Yes Club00 is gay-night on some nights, but I don't know which night. I went on a Saturday night, and it was a straight crowd, sprinkled in with some gays.

The thing about The Week is it only runs as a disco on Saturday nights as far as I know, so it will be gay night. It could work in your favor though, as you might be one of the few straight guys there and can chat it up with the ladies where their guard might be down.

look, nothing has changed in the ternas (except prices). you just need to understand rio. this is jan. and a lot of people in rio go on vacation. i reckon that most of the people in termas either live in rio or come there on business. when people are on vacation, you can't have meetings so business travel to rio between dec. and canaval is always way down. no offense to the people on this board, but i just don't think the number of sex tourists is that big in the termas. help was another story.

let me assure you, there are still beautiful girls in the termas with even more beautiful attitudes. if you can't have fun in a quiet terma, try a little harder. think about your job. do you like it when nothing is happening? same with the girls, so go in and make it happen. they will love you for it.

as an example, i went to l during a big futball match and i was the only guy in the place. the girls were sitting around, legs draped on each other, cuddling like a bunch of cats. almost licking each other. for the first time i understood where 'cat house' came from. i spied a couple of new faces, ordered a bottle of wine and sat between them. they immediately warmed up and came alive. i shared the wine, bought a few drinks and i was king of the hill. i had an excptional session and when i came back out, after a few minutes i was double teamed by carolina and someone else i forget and they wanted tequila shots. how could i resist?

up to you but a quiet terma can be a blast.

i am sure the economy and higher prices also have an effect but people will get used to it.

Just a couple of observations:

Meia Pattaca: Empty most of yesterday. I haven't eaten there for years, but I always rent an apartment near by. At 2 p.m., (14:00) there was not one customer there, but 6 waiters in white standing around. In the evening, a couple of Brazilian families eating a late dinner. Not one GDP or potential customer. Clearly the days of this location as "Meia Putteria" are over. (Is Hooker Beach next on the death knoll?)

Loumo: Was open yesterday, despite the religious holiday. Apparently, based upon conversation with other guys, everywhere else was closed, ie: MC, Centaurus, etc. Talked to Bia who said that she believes that the American tourist volume is way down, mostly due to the devaluation of the dollar compared to the real. Same thing for most of Europe, except for the Italians. (Don't know why it wouldn't effect them, thought they used Euro's too!) Still a slow night, but the girls were friendly and fun. A smile and a fun attitude and the place comes alive. If you sit there quietly and don't interact, it could be pretty dull.

As to Non-Pros: A friend with NO Portuguese and first time in Brasil, but no lack of courage, has been walking up to and talking to girls in the street all the time. A couple of joggers, a girl looking in a store window, etc. Of about 10, only one wouldn't talk to him and give him a telephone number. We'll see how well the later rendezvous work, but surely suggests that a measure of confidence (translated: no fear of rejection) is the most important ingredient in meeting girls on the street. Oh, and these were clerks, accountant, female taxi driver, etc. Not GDP, or at least not full time.

I was here exactly one year ago and despite the prices a lot changed.

Girls that ask how is in the other termas and if the girls there work is nothing never happens to me last year.

I think girls and not me or us, are depressing.

My idea of terma is where girls make me come alive, cause I pay them, not they me.

My wingman used to do this, he was brilliant at it. We would mostly work the subways and the street but also Maracana. He had zero Porto as well but many of the educated girls would know a smattering of English. When he ran out of chat I´d take over and vice versa. We used to challenge each other to chat up the most attractive, non-chat-up-able girls we could see. We mostly got phone numbers, never an outright rejection.

Another tactic is similar to the one mentioned by Lukasek - we´d pay them into a nightclub. Not just to collect phone numbers - but to use them as bait. Especially good if they are very hot looking but maybe not up for it the first night. Then we´d put them in a taxi and go back in the club.

i am sure the economy and higher prices also have an effect but people will get used to it.[/quote]i agree with you slim. but when i was a young salesman, i was only good as my last sale. if you're selling tires and people are walking into the shop and there are more ambitious salesman than i then he will get the sale. however, if a customer walls into the business and no on approaches and makes him comfortable until some one is able to service him then he will leave and go where they want his business. terma girls are selling sex, so they need to act like they want a customer to spend their money. i'm not going to kiss someone's ass and pay too. with that attitude a salesman will starve, and the same for gdp.

Check always your bill, you can find not nice surprise and when they correct it immediately and they say nothing, it is clear they plan in advance to fuck you, cause most of gringos pay without check the bill and they know it....

Tell me about it, receptionist got mad at me when I pointed out my bill was incorrect several times, had to call the manager because she couldn't figure it out. Here's a thought, if they try to pad your bill, dispute some of the legitimate charges, maybe that will cause them to have second thoughts about adding some extra stuff.

Hey, no problem. It's all just IMHO. YMMV. If you make visits to Rio, you will undoubtedly find conditions different, sometimes better for you, sometimes worse. Sorry it seems not to be working very well for you this time. It can be pretty frustrating if your time is limited and your expectations are not being fulfilled. If you like company you can try 22. But it is down market and usually not (m)any gringos. There should be other guys hanging around so that the place is 'rocking' as much as it ever is. On th other end of the economic scale, probably Centauras will have some activity.

Anyway, the girls always complain when it gets slow. I was only sharing one way to deal with that. I personally don't like it so much when the places are packed. But a moderate amount of activity is nice. I have decided I have no control over this aspect and that I will have fun regardless. To each his own. And as I said, it's all IMHO and YMMV.
