Cartagena Reports

I was down in Cartagena the weekend before last and had a run in with the guy who manages LDV & Elektra. What a prick. Dude seems to think he's running his own little island. I really didn't care for him and I have to say. I've been coming to Cartagena for around 5 years now. The place has changed. There are a few girls in his clubs who are nothing but trouble. They go from LDV on to Elektra late night. I don't remember seeing so much attitude. Drugs. Girls demanding 4-5 times what they did a few years ago. And even the manager would rather stand behind these troublesome few than do the right thing by an American customer. He's Italian (I think). Average height, thin, 50ish with a big wart on his nose/face & wears glasses. Had a few choice words for us Americans. I was pretty disappointed in the whole experience.

I think the writing is on the wall and if it's not too late already I think that it's time to find a new hunting ground for the Colombian experience.

Where's the next "spot to be?". My spanish is pretty damn good, I can hold my own in the looks dept and I don't need a chaperone.

I do not look latino however so safety is always a concern.

Any feedback/ideas?

fabone is correct about ldv and elecktra. there are a hard core group of girls that cause trouble and would not doubt that aldo may be getting a cut. you can find girls on the beach, on the street, all over the place that will take care of you for about 100k, some even 80k. plus the women at ldv, in my experiences always have the look of boredom, jaded and hardened look on their faces. or maybe it is because many of them are flying high as a kite on blow. the last trip to ldv, reminded me of the del rey in costa rica, mercenaries.

i do not understand why aldo would have such harsh words for americans? maybe he owns aig stock or gm? , but that is his fault, not ours. but then again the european governments, including that ugly toad from the uk, are stoking anti-americanism be blaming the us government, for their bad investments in a free market. guess what. sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. fabone your not the only one, another member was harrased by a couple of swedish broads in ctg last fall, and he would not apologize for being an american and walked away, me i would have decked the swedish broads first for their behavior. shit if i were aldo i would go out of my way to cater to the naive americans who pay way too much money, kind of like tony the tout does. tony will screw you, but at least he does not hate americans, we pay for his gold tooth.

i caught a little grief on my last trip in september in bocagrande one time by some black colombianos " obama obama", i turned around and told to shut the fuck up and leave me alone, then walked off. i in return got the angry stares that whitey gets in south central los angeles

what is funny is that i have never experienced any anti-americanism in cali at all, never. in fact the people were very curious about the usa and very helpful, but then again one does not wear shorts, flip-flops or in the case of the italians, speedos in cali. i bet one of our members whom i will refer to as " rural tamelife", probably knows to shut up in cali.

Of course like most prohibited psychoactive substances it is readily available particularly in Cartagena, but if you get caught with it by the police you're on your own.

However, I am certain that any non-Colombian would face some problems if your small amount was discovered by the police. If you give them a reason to shake you down, they will.

I can't tell from the pic but I don't think I see him in it.

He's no physical threat but his attitude when he's upset will eventually get him put on his a$at if he crosses the wrong gringo. That much I'm sure of.

MJG. Thanks for your input. I didn't want to go in to too much of an attack on LDV sice I thought that maybe mine might have been an isolated incident. But I think the girls are doing what they are doing because Aldo is allowing it. Maybe even rewarding it rather he realizes it or not.

I'll say this. Aldo is all about Aldo and if you stand up to him he'll have you put out the door. My only regret is that I didn't put him is his place. But it is Colombia and I'd rather be smart and healthy than cross some Barny Fife Italian with a point to proove Colombian style.

I just found out something interesting when calling Colombia today:

I mentioned my problem with Aldo the manager of LDV. What I didn't go into detail over is what began the situation.

There is a short stocky blonde who instigated the situation that lead to my discussion with Aldo. This girl is a heavy drug user and has a reputation amongst the girls there as a bully & problem starter. Her "artist name" is Michelle but I got her real name and cedula from the police and it's: Yamilet [blue][Personal contact information deleted by Admin][/blue]. She crossed the line heavily one night when she and 3 others picked a fight and attacked a non working girl friend of mine that I've know for 3 years. She was translating for a friend of mine at the time. They followed her to the bathroom then jumped her. Didn't even know the girl! When our friend Aldo refused to address the situation, I did. I made it a point to let "Michelle" know that she had better watch herself and this led to my altercation with Aldo as he stepped in and sided with her. Then had me and my two friends kicked out of LDV. Here's the interesting part: My flight was early the next morning so I took off at 6:00 the next morning. She didn't know this and called a hoodlum friend of hers later that day. Told him that she was the inocent victim of a fight and that a crazed gringo tried to physically attack her and threatened her life. Said that he's staying in Laguito and she was successful in recruiting 4 "bad boy Colombianos" in cruising Laguito & Boca so she could point him out and they would jump him!

Dude! These people are idiots!

You're out minding your own business in the club one night when you cross the wrong person. A girl of all things. She starts some s#$! So you stand your ground and the next thing you know you're being hunted by a bunch of ignorant "tough guys" bent on teaching you a lesson? !

No wonder there having this limpieza thing on the putas & gangsters. Gheese! I still say that Aldo is the problem.

I approached him before I said a word to her. He smarted off and refused to do anything about it.

He's befriended these lying, drug abusing, problem causing putas. And when they misbehave, he kicks their victims out and not them!

Guys, the booty's just as good outside of LDV & Elektra.

I for one and looking for a place that treats there customers as guests and appreciates their patronage.

Things like this have happened to other gringos that I have known also fabone.

As much as I like Cartagena, I am always on guard. I ended up having to physcially throw a chica out of my apartment whom I caught trying to steal in 2005, she threatened to have me killed very loudly, then called the cops, who came up about a hour later. I was lucky for the next door neighbor was a colombian family that heard her and told the cops what they heard, she ended up being taken away in handcuffs. Anything is possible in Cartagena.

I am not surprised that that ugly dago would side with the criminals. Aldo must be from Naples.

What happened to the "reports".
