Yes, the girl will rattle off something in Thai denying it. But it turns out Thai girls are merely prolific actresses, not very good ones. The mamasan will know she's lying. And if it is as obvious a scam as it was in my cases, you won't be the first customer who has complained about being scammed by her. I'm not saying any mamasan will just smile and happily hand you back the barfine. But they sure as hell don't want a big hulking man standing in the middle of their bar waiting for his money back and refusing to budge until he does. LOL.

Even if you don't get the barfine back and you get tired of waiting for a final decision, it is well worth the effort in the long run. Not a negative result from it in terms of your access to the girls in that bar, their future treatment of you, the stated "quality control" element of it for all concerned and so on.

Probably the happiest and most sexually satisfied customer those bars will ever have is the very next guy who barfines one of their girls after one of their (probably suspected) scammers got trotted back into that bar and it became clear to everyone that this time she wasn't going to get away with it. Lucky dude whoever walked into those bars after I walked out with my refunded barfine.

One reason I am vague about the Bangkok rates is because I really didn't spend much time in Bangkok back then. In those days, I high-tailed it to Pattaya on arrival and only spent the last night or two of a one or two week holiday in Bangkok on the way out. This was before the MRT, the BTS, and before they had passed stricter auto / motorbike exhaust and noise abatement laws. In my mind Bangkok was just a big, noisy, smoggy city, slicker and more expensive than Pattaya. Now my feelings about the two locations are reversed. I don't like Pattaya much at all but love Bangkok. 555.

I remember what a Short Time in Pattaya was going for around that time because, as a newbie, I overpaid dreadfully at first. A very cute Pattaya beer bar girl looked incredulously at the 900 baht I handed her after the deed and said something on the order of, "Honey, that is too much. You don't have to pay the ladies that much. " And then she kissed me and handed me back about 300 or maybe 400 baht of it. Swear to god. Which goes to your memory of there not being as many "bad girls" in those days. Not sure any P4 P girl anywhere in Thailand would be so helpful to a newbie customer these days. After that, paying a Pattaya beer bar girl about 400-500 baht or so was the norm. However, it was also about that time that I took a 15 year break between my multiple visits per year until I retired in Thailand a few years ago. So that is where the timeline takes a leap forward for me.

Well, actually I do recall there being a few "Yes in the bar, No in the room" scam experiences in both Bangkok and Pattaya in those days, just like today. But not as many as I encountered in Angeles City, the Philippines. I was there while the "good" (sarcasm) Doctor Mo, whom I met and knew casually, was busy buying up bars, putting together his consortium of farang Angeles City bar owners and having secret meetings to change the bargirl culture in that previous little slice of Heaven into Lady Drink Hustler Central. After which, the pay-upfront girls were literally instructed to behave more or less like the Coyote bait-and-switch scammers in Thailand now. It became all about hustling Lady Drinks and turning down enough offers for take-out as possible in order to stay in the bar and continue hustling Lady Drinks. Consequently, the pay-after (the portion of the money that goes to the girl, that is) system in Thailand was more appealing to me as a P4 P option and then, as now, an out-and-out scam would not be expected. But it did happen.

I also remember that when some of the bar management in Thailand got word from a customer that he'd been scammed, they cared and did something about it back then. They asked when they saw you again. They didn't wait until a scammed customer summoned up the guts to walk back in and pro-actively complain. I remember a mamasan at Tim's go-go bar in Pattaya being very upset to hear I had not gotten what had been agreed to by one of her girls the night before and offered me another girl free of barfine charge. Wow.

That was not the case in Angeles City. Not after Mo did his damage before selling his bars and moving on to, Cambodia, I think.

I was never much into the soapy or oily massage shop scene then or now. Just have had nothing but utterly forgettable (at best) service from the girls in them. Even when I tried several of them again in the past few years. I tried a couple of soapies back then and remember one in or around Patpong that had very young girls working there. Younger than you will see anywhere in any of the venues now. Different times.

I experienced the early Thermae bar and Soapy MP 24 years back. Was my favorite spot. Knew a few girls at Thermae. Progression to BB was not hard. No HIV known in those days. Only had to make sure she did not have Herpes. Other STDs easily treatable if had bad luck, and if had no girlfriend. A lot of semi-pros at the Thermae bar having regular jobs but needing a bit of extra money. Many guys got a lot of knock backs from the girls.
