For my December trip, I flew down to MDE on Spirit and flew back on Copa using FF miles. The Spirit flight ended up fine. No problem with tight connection in FLL. Even adding in paying (ahead of time) extra for more carry on luggage, the one-way ticket was very inexpensive. But a sample size of one doesn't mean much!

I'm returning in a few weeks using FF miles (Copa on the way down; AA on the way back).

I've heard Copa had a lot of Boeing planes that got taken out of their rotation, and because of less seats available, prices rose. I don't know the veracity of that, but I hope Copa goes back because I like flying with them.

If you are a bigger guy you MUST pay extra for the bigger seats up front. They are roomy and you'll have elbow space but for some reason they don't recline. Also if you want water, soda, or a bag of nuts you will have to pay a fee. Everything is a fee but if you come prepared with food in your bag it's not a big deal. I found the website a little bit confusing as well so then I decided to call someone at Spirit and they answered all of my questions. You should probably do the same and the get the answers from the source. Weight out the pros and cons like travel time and fees. In the end you might be better off just going with Copa.

IMO they look lame and contrived in porn, so why would I bother, I have never met a monger that said they enjoyed a 3 some many have tried, every single one has told me don't waste your money.

I've found the biggest problem with Spirit is one you can't overcome, the check in and boarding process. It's brutal. Once you get on the plane it's not bad and of course the arrival and immigration is the same for all airlines. The flimsy seats that don't recline are not such a big problem to Medellin but Spirit has a route to Lima. I imagine that a 5 hour route on their planes can't be good.

It is a direct flight, so it is a very fast connection FLL-MDE. The flight is a money-maker for Spirit, as it is always full, and the crew does not do a lay-over in MDE, so the company does not tolerate any delays, or mechanical problems, or no-shows from the crew. Hence, the flight is on time, never cancelled, and the plane always works. I've only had one cancellation, last September, when the hurricane closed 3 airports in south Florida...but that was with American Airlines.

You will pay between $8-$12 for a regular seat in the back half, $14 in the front. Regular seat is uncomfortable. Sometimes, it does not recline. Pay extra for the big front seat ($30?) or an exit row seat ($16-$20?) You pay for seats and bags on each flight there and back, but that is just from final departure airport and back. So you just pay twice, even if you have 4 legs on the trip.

Fees: The basic fare is almost half of what other airlines charge.
You will pay for your choice of seat, and every bag beyond a small carry-on back pack. Oh, and taxes. This is the only airline that is honest and tells you what you are paying in taxes.
Add those, and the fair is about 60% of what the others charge.

I bring a sandwich, and drink up before I board. I don't buy their overpriced snacks.When I land, I have my driver bring me a water.

I pack light. One small back pack, one small roll-aboard.

The back pack can carry enough for a 3 day trip (provided you can wash some clothes when you get there), add the back pack, and I have enough for up to two weeks, to include gifts, and lots of reading material.

I use a rectangular piece of plastic to neatly fold my shirts (like the retail clothing stores do), stack them along with my slacks and undies into a 8" high square on top of the plastic, then slide both into a plastic compression bag, and squash everything into a vapo-locked bag that neatly takes up just half my roll-a-board's space.

Putting the roll-a-board in the overhead will cost between $9-$15. I pay less because I join their club. This gets me into boarding category 2.

I buy the exit row seat.

I bring my own snacks.

I never check in a bag. Check in a bag, and at best, you will wait for it at luggage claim, and at worst, they will lose it.

Before I get on board, I take half a sleeping pill. Since there is no movie, it is either sleep, read, or bring a device. I wear a sleep mask, pop in earplugs and / or put in noise cancelling headphones, and sometimes put on a moistened nose / mouth mask (which protects you from colds, and keeps the plane from dehydrating you.).

I keep in mind that, for just a day's wages, I am getting a magical seat that. In less time than some people spend commuting every day. Will pick me up, put me in the clouds, and drop me off in the land of a hundred erections.

I recently flew on American, and it wasn't a better experience, except that it was out of Miami, which is just an Uber ride away for me.

I get their credit card, use it almost exclusively, and every year, I get a free trip (but I pay the taxes, of course.)

The grounding of the 737 Max aircraft is causing some airlines to have fewer planes, hence more demand, hence higher prices.

Spirit is a pain in the ass with all the fees, but if you play it right, you can get by on the cheap. Other dirt cheap carrier is Viva Air but they only fly out of Miami to Medellin. If you fly into Lauderdale and need to transfer to Miami Airport, there is a train that you can use that connects you that costs like $5.

Still, Viva doesn't gauge you as badly fee wise as Sprint. For the most part, I like Airbus more than Boeings, and both carriers fly airbuses. I found Copa flights to be crazy cramped, and I usually got a 737.

One other cheap carrier I love is Interjet: big roomy seats, free food and drink, and they too fly Aibuses. They have long delays though which kind of sucks. At times, Jet Blue can compete with Spirit and take Jet Blue if you have the chance.

Wingo is a dirt cheap carrier that flies sporadically out of Bogota. Wingo flies to neighboring countries like Aruba, Panama, DR, and Costa Rica. So if you happen to find dirt cheap flights to those countries, add on Wingo flight, and you might have a bargain. Southwest Air flies to Aruba and Costa Rica.

Thing is that I have found $100 flights to Colombia from city I live in (and Miami) at times. Usually though when you use airline miles, there is often a $100 fee attached like with American. For whatever reason, British Airways shares flights with American and I got a one way from DFW to BOG for only 13,000 points versus American's 18,000 and for $20 instead of $100.

If you have points on Marriott or American Express or some other plan that can be converted into other airlines points, it is worth the time to play around with how many points / miles and $ it is to fly to Colombia. The frequent flier points of various airlines varied tremendously as I saw BA had the low at 13,000 points and $20 but with others, the total was as high as 30,000 and $100.

Been spoiled with COPA and before that TACA before they were bought by Avianca. I like just paying and having all included but right now price and a bit of hassle will be worth it. I'm overdue doe some are&are. I also liked their treatment since they've gotten to know me and customs and immigration at my final destination is the best. Also liquor allowed from duty free in Panama to home airport.

I am tentative but really how bad can it be and I'll get back to where I want to be and forget any hassles once I'm there.

The truth eventually comes out. I stopped talking to her. I guess I got on to her early and got a little lucky. The funny thing is that she continued to tell me that she was not a prepago. That people were lying to me about her. Even though the evidence was obvious. I am always intrigued by this. Lesson to newbies, these girls will stick to a lie no matter how evidence is against them.
