Pangeran Jayakarta means Prince Jayakarta, so actually the Jayakarta part of the name is more important. If you're taking a taxi and there's any doubt about the destination because you can't pronounce the name or something like that, just tell the driver it's in the area of Jalan Mangga Besar (big mango street). Or mention that it's in Kota - that's the old northern area of Jakarta (means town or city). Lots of ethnic Chinese live there, which is probably part of the reason why there are so many fuck shops there. They also run most of the electronic and computer shops that the area is famous for.

The Kota area has TC, Hotel Travel, Stadium, Berlian and lots of the other famous venues frequently mentioned in the forum. They're not all next to each other, but are in a number of little groups in different sites around the wider Kota area. Details are in many many other reports.

I wouldn't do that. You might tell the driver Jalan Mangga DUA or better still, Stasiun Kota (Kota railway station) or Gereja Sion (Sion's church).

There is also a Hotel Jayakarta in the Kota area that is NOT located at the jalan Pangeran Jayakarta. So telling the driver you want to go to Jalan PANGERAN Jayakarta would be better.

To add some confusion, the places you will be looking for are located at the far side of a block. If you don't know where this block is located, make it clear to the driver that your goal is to visit the girls or you might end up in jalan Gunung Sahari.

I mentioned a few months back that when I visited Jalan Industri all the shops were shut due to a recent police raid. I asked did anyone have any more info but perhaps my request got lost in the "chit chat", so I was wondering whether you or anyone else have visited since and whether 9-11 is back in business again. Grotty it may be but I always found it to be good fun.

I've been in Jakarta for a week now. I stayed at the nice Intercontinental, and got a nice suite upgrade, and the free minibar that my hotel status gives me works out well too. I've now moved to Take's Mansion, which is okay, but as JAD warned me, it's a pain in the ass to get out of there, with all the one way streets and such.

JAD has been helpful, and we've gone out a few times. I think as I get older that my passion for mongering all the times is going out the window, sad as that is to say!

Through JAD's help, I managed to meet up with the elusive Kiki who I had tried to track down last year. Still good service, and not too worn out yet!

I am looking for a good source of books to read. I usually bring 4-5 with me, and they last the whole trip, but I've almost exhausted them. If you know of a good used bookstore or such, let me know.

This discussion about the best directions to give taxi drivers shows how important it is to get a reliable taxi. If you're a newbie you really are dependent on a good driver. You can say "near mangga besar" or "near mangga dua" or whatever, but that is only to give the general area. If the driver doesn't know the precise place you should make him ask someone on the street for directions or you could drive around for hours.

The best advice for the uninitiated in Jakarta is to only take a Bluebird or Silverbird taxi. If you're really unsure of yourself stick to the Silverbirds. They are more expensive and only really available at big hotels or by phone (79171234), but their drivers are usually excellent. Take them until you are confident about where you're going.

The second most reliable option is Bluebird (from the same company as Silverbird). Their drivers usually know where they're going. Beware that sometimes you may get an idiot Bluebird driver, but mostly they're good. Bluebirds are so well-known that other cowboy taxis try to disguise themselves as Bluebirds (same colour, logo almost the same etc). The way to know a Bluebird is by the big sticker across the top of the windscreen saying "Bluebird Group". Unlike Silverbirds, there are hundreds on the street and you can easily hail one (except when it's raining...).

Some mongers will hire a taxi for the night. They can take you to the venue of your fucking and sucking pleasure and have them wait for you. The extra charge is minimal (including parking fees), unless you're really on a tight budget. Don't do this myself because I've never found it necessary. But some like the ease of just walking out to your own little blue limo.

Oh forgot to add...

The main reason to take only Bluebird is that the drivers generally (though not always) actually know the streets of Jakarta. But the other reason is that many other taxis are dirty, smelly, have half-functioning, sweat-inducing AC and bone-breaking suspension and their drivers have not washed this year and are like something out of The Killing Fields or Deliverance. If things are really dire and the streets are devoid of Bluebirds, you might take an Express. They are easily recognisable because they're the only ones that are painted white.

I add this because there is no real issue about security in any Jakarta taxis, no matter how hot and stinky. They are safe and you won't get seriously ripped off. A couple of years ago there were media reports of robberies by drivers, but they would be one in ten billion events. I've never been to South America but I've heard horror stories about Brazil etc. Jakarta, on the other hand, is as safe as any city in the West.

As of last week when I was staying in the Sheraton, Industri 9-11 was still active, albeit in a much diminished state from prior visits. The ruko that the famous Cici used to operate out of seems to be permanently closed. I miss her VERY PROACTIVE tongue stud anal rimming. (Bro Menteng will know what I'm talking about.)
