CL/GE... I think that is pretty sound advice. That way I'll at least have a taste of the north. Everyone seems to be pretty down on the Renaissance in Makati... I have normally had very good girl-friendly results all over the world with the Marriott chain. Do you think that the clamp down will continue for several months or just blow over?

Why take the chance? Unless you have a truly spectacular rate at the Renaissance, stay at the Dusit, the Peninsula, the Mandarin or the Shangri La, where they do not give you any hassles, ever.

I read in Lonely Planet that the whale sharks go to Sogod Bay and Liloan Bay near Padre Burgos, so I'm hoping to go for a few dives there and hope to see them.

I've heard about thresher sharks at Malapuscua, but I hear they are seen very often anymore. I'm going to Apo Island near Dumaguete this trip, and according to Dragon Slayer, chicks are ripe for the picking in Dumaguete. However, last time I was there, I couldn't find anythig. Have to make sure to get detailed info before I go this time.

Thanks for the suggestion to fly to Davao instead of travelling by road. How much is the flight from Cagayan to Davao? Also, can you fly from Davao directly to Manila? And how much? I want to go to Manila and try Angeles City this trip. Heard so much about it - gotta try it.

As far as diving in Canada goes - I got certified here, and that was the last time I dove here. Way too cold.

Hope to see some of the members in Asia when I get there in Nov.

Diver69, as usual, I agree with CL. I've always heard that Donsol is THE place for whale sharks.

I was in Puerto Galera in Feb this year. It's the same ole arm pit with a little above average diving, but I loved it ! For you non divers, check out the floating bar, the blue "Sunshine resort" one. They will lend you snorkeling gear to use right off the bar. In a 20 minute snorkel I saw a couple rays, a snowflake moray, a school of coral cats, and a mantis shrimp plus lots of little common fish. They no longer allow the girls to fish and they feed the fish. So there's lots of life around.

I stayed at the "Steps" resort (formerly kn own as the Terraces). Great place. Get a cottage high up (number 15 is my favorite) without aircon. The breeze is enough. Great service, friendly folks and a super value. Oh, and it's far enough away from the bars that it's quiet enough, but still pretty easy access.

The same was not true of my former favorite Ermita hotel. Lotus Garden screwed me. I showed up, as I usually do, without a resrv. They were full. I asked them to call City State Tower, as I was using Si-kat to get to PG. I was told by the Lotus Garden staff that City Tower was full. So they booked me into one of Lotus Gardens partner hotels. OK room but 3500 piso. Too much. I was tired and took it. Later, while cruising around, I stopped into City State to make my Si-kat resvr. and decideed to talk to the front desk. They told me they had lots of rooms and I could have stayed for 1700 P. I've been a long time fan of Lotus Garden but, no mas.

I also got crap service from the Puerto Galera dive center of Atlantis. Another former favorite.

I am awaiting news of a job possibility, so all trips are on hold for now.

I expect to spend a pleasant few months in the Philippines, mostly Mindanao, over the next several months.
1. If I go around Mindanao by bus, what are the chances of hijacking, thefts?
2. Where precisely can I buy sex toys in Manila?
3. Is there anywhere in Mindanao in particular with cheap, local and dirty "anything goes" sex? I am particularly interested in holing up in a cheap, local brothel and fucking my brains out with as amny skanks as I can get through. Places like AC do not interest me at all. Thanks.

In the last two weeks, I've seen a manta ray, two turtles and a lot of squid in Davao Gulf. My friends saw a whale shark, but I was not with them. The Coral Gardens in Tillikud and the dive sites off Big Ligid are not bad at all. We've also seen a lot of small tuna around lately, and innumerable giant clams. All of this stuff has been between 25-30 meters.

Why not just post the places here? I have seen no reports of same and I scored ok on that front in Davao last time out.
Are bus hijackings common? What happens at night that we should not even think about it? And if we should not even think about traveling at night, why do people travel at night? I intend to just ramble and go wherever the buses go. I expect most of my travel to be done early morning but I would like to know the risks and the rewards.

No, bus hijackings are not common, but they're not unknown. Neither are robberies mixed with violence, and neither is kidnapping, though the latter is admittedly somewhat farfetched. The fact is, as an expat using public transportation in Mindanao, you are vulnerable and during the night, the roads are not protected and shit happens. Is it likely? No it's not, but it's a hell of a lot more plausible during the night than during the day for reasons I've stated elsewhere.

As to the addresses, I do not have them as I do not go to these palces any more and the locations change frequently. I have several friends however, who do go, and I can get you a list if you like.

Me - I'm a scandinavian, traveling frequently also to the baltic countries and Russia, but we seldom see such ladies that you posted here. Blondes are fun, right?

In Manila, if staying a night or two, I would stay at The Heritage which is a few minutes walk to the EDSA complex, and 10 minutes from Ermita, or 10 minutes from Bourgos Street. Also about 10-15 minutes from the New Entertainment Centre near the old domestic airport, where you will find little competition, since very few customers yet, but PLENTY of ladies. And not least - Only 15 minutes (or maybe even less) from the airport when you are leaving for the south.

I am sure you will be succesful throughout the 7107 islands of the RP. :)

There are three dive shops here: Pro Dive, Wind and Wave and Carabao. The first two organize dives every week end, but in my opinion Wind and Wave is a rip off and I never go with them. Pro Dive charges only for the cost of the boat (usually about PhP300 per head) and the tanks (usually 2 at PhP150) so the entire day will cost you somewhere around PhP600, or about $11.00. I usually do not dive with any dive shop, but with a group of friends, all of whom like to dive every week. Today, for example, we had two great dives (and saw a beautiful turtle) and the cost per head was PhP280 for the boat and again, PhP150 per tank since we used Pro Dive's tanks. If you're interested in joining us while you're here, send me a PM and we can include you easily. If you need equipment, it will cost you about PhP1,000 ($18.50) for the day, not including tanks.

I will try to get a list together this week after I check with some friends. As I said before, the locations of these places change so frequently that I'm sure my information is out of date.
