I have only been in Korea (Choenan) for a couple of weeks, and so am a complete novice. An aquaintance recommended a subway stop on the subway line into Seoul from Choenan called Pyoungtek, stating that there were window girls available for 50,000 won. I visited the area in question and found that, unsurprisingly, none of these girls would accept a foreigner.

Out of the say 40-50 girls in the RLD there were a small minority of fairly attractive girls there, but mostly there was just a lot of makeup and outrageous costume covering quite mediocre wares. To anyone who has not experienced the novelty of walking through a Korean red light district filled with prostitutes calling out - mostly in vain - to the occasional carload of Koreans crawling through, only to be utterly rejected by each and every one of them, let me tell you it is not pleasant. These girls didn't seem to have many customers at all on a Saturday night - but the foreigner would go unserviced.

Retreating ignominiously to Choenan, I wandered the area to the left as one departs the main entrance of the train/subway station. After a while I was approached by a little old woman, who said something I did not understand and motioned for me to follow her. I thought, 'why not, it couldn't get much worse.. I might even do her!' She led me to a back alley off a sort of inactive marketplace, and installed me in a small warm room containing a thin futon bed. There she took 40,000 won from me and disappeared. I awaited, thinking 'oh well, its only $40, and assuming she would not come back. But after a few minutes a cheerful but rather comically unattractive middle aged woman came in - this, it appeared, was to be my provider for the evening. We proceeded to have BBFS to completion, though oral service seemed to be absolutely out of the question.

Afterwards I felt oddly unsatisfied. Though the woman was a pleasant, smiling sort, she was awfully unattractive, and the service was certainly inferior even by American standards. So, I continued wandering, and observed that there were at least a couple of dozen of these grandmother/touts in a fairly wide area. I decided to go with another one as an experiment, to see if any attractive women were forthcoming. The next led me deep into a maze of tiny alleyways - very old fashioned looking and so different from the modern Korea I had experienced so far. It appeared that nearly all the doorways on these alleys led to halls with a few rooms and women's shoes outside. I even saw a couple of women through glass sliding doors. The whole affect was very private and even secretive compared to the window girls in Pyoungteak, and also quite downmarket.

This time I was led to a room off one of these halls that was like a standard hotel room, with bath and a TV. The woman who joined me there later was younger than my first provider of the evening, but still at least 35. The price quoted was only 30,000, so I jumped at the chance - an amazing bargain!
