Just to add to JZ's good advice. The collection of beer bars on Loi Khra (same same Loi Kroh?) Road is called Chiang Mai Entertainment Center (CEC). For later in the evening options, Bubbles Disco at the Pornping Hotel and, I understand, Spicy all night restaurant are worth a visit.

and like someone posted last year - to get to CEC just ask tuk-tuk to go to "Star 6" - ("dow-hok" in thai) right across the street

Foxy Lady is a great Go-Go (Thapae Soi 1).

All the Night Bazar bars moved to CEC, where there are about twenty bars, but don't ask for "Dao Hok" as Dinghy suggests- Kohn Thai also call this place Star Six, yet pronounce it "S'dar Sik".

Bubble isn't so popular these days thanks to the opening of Mandalay, a mega disco that attracts a good mix of bar-girls, freelancers, students and hi-so Thais.

I visited Thailand over xmas and made a visit to Chang Mai. A bit of research (on this site) and I was soon up and running. I managed to log on to this site at most of the internet café’s around Moon Marg (the main road - inside the wall – on the East side of the central city) .

On the eastern side of the walled city the Tha Phae gate is the easiest reference place. I will describe most of my directions from there. It is half way down the Eastern Wall with a big sign on it and a pedestrian area nearby.

SITE 1 = Gogo bar called “Moonlight”. This is located on the road parallel to Moon Marg on the outside of the moat (Thanon Kotchasan). Start at the Tha Phae gate. Cross the moat cross the road in front of you and trun right to walk down the pavement on the far side of that road. “moonlight” is about 50m – 75m on this road on the left.

I went in to moonlight a few times during happy hour for a 1st beer of the night. I didn’t thing the quality in there was great. It is a laid back place. Unless you call a girl over they will not come over and hassle you. So if you just want a beer and a view (if too early in the evening for serious business it is a place you can just pop into.

SITE 2 – Girly Bars ….. These are located on Thanon Loi Khraw close to the corner with Thanon Kotchasan. Start at the Tha Phae gate. Walk South on Moon Marg (inside moat), stay on the gate side of the road. Walk for 3 / 4 minutes until the next break in the moat with a road over it …. Traffic travelling into the walled city. Go over the moat against the flow of traffic. You will see a junction ahead of you this road is on Thanon Loi Khraw. The girly bars are over the next 30m of both sides of the road on Thanon Loi Khraw and to the left for maybe 3 or 4 bars up Thanon Kotchasan.

The bars have girls of varying quality … I must admit I spent more time drinking and playing pool than serious hobbying so I have not had a test drive of the girls in most of these pics..

I must admit I cannot remember the names of all the bars . But the first lady is my favourite. How could you not like a girl whos name is PORN ---- full name SILLY PORN. She was a lovely girl but wanted 1000 bhat for 45 mins short time plus barfine which is too much for Chang Mai at bar girl prices.


Silly Porn was at a bar about 4 bars up from the corner on the road parallel to the moat. This bar has a lock in after all the others are shut. The shutters come down but a small door in the front will be opened if they recognise you.

The next girls are from a bar about 4 bars down Thanon Loi Khraw on the left hand side of the road.


Barfine is 300 bhat … the rest is negotiable.
PS the pool table is awful but the girls are fun to play with !!!!!!!

SITE 3: This is the hard to find Entertainment complex (CEC). LOOK FOR FEDEX sign !!

Start at the Tha Phae gate. Walk South on Moon Marg (inside moat), stay on the gate side of the road. Walk for 3 / 4 minutes until the next break in the moat with a road over it …. Traffic travelling into the walled city. Go over the moat against the flow of traffic. You will see a junction ahead of you this road is on Thanon Loi Khraw. Walk down Thanon Loi Khraw for maybe 5 mins. Stay on the RHS of the road and look for an advertising sign with FEDEX on it.

Turn right by this sign and there is a row with maybe 20 bars there. Again the quality of girls is variable. There are one or two ladyboys about as well. My favourite bar was same same but different which is run by Mai. She is lovely. It took a lot of effort to persuade her to shut early and go with me. It was worth it !! – good luck to those that follow in my footsteps.

“Jim” is the ladyboy who works for Mai. He / she . is the really friendly and nice. If you say you are not into ladyboys you can laugh and joke / play pool with “Jim” in a none threatening atmosphere .. it is nice .. “Jim” and Mai are great people.

What would you guys recommend for resturaunts?

Preferably ones that offer a world cuisine menu.

Dude, there are so many good restaurants here.

A lot of smaller, lesser known places are best, but well-known favourites, serving both Thai and international cusine, include:

Arctica
Dalaabaa
Good View
Riverside
The Cottage
Brasserie
Palaad Tawanron
Monkey Club

And about a zillion more.

Whether it is food or pussy you're eating, CM is a great place to dine.

Has anybody been in the Marin Bar on Loi Khro Road recently?

I have a reason for asking: I have lost touch with the Thai woman who owned the bar along with her sister in 2003, and I would just like to know how she's getting along. Call me foolish or call me sentimental if you like, but she was very good company for me on and off for a few trips from about 2000 until 2003.

She's called Nongnuch or Nuch (prononounced Noot) and she's a bit older than the average BG. I used to have her mobile number and called her maybe twice a year, but I haven't been able to get a connection for about a year. I occasionally sent her a card at the bar, again without a response recently.

So, if anybody out there has met her recently, or indeed knows if the Marin Bar has changed hands, I'd appreciate some news. It's no big deal, and I won't be able to get back to Thailand in the foreseeable future (I got a bit bored with it and have found Buenos Aires to be more exciting at present) but I'm still wondering how Nuch is.

I'm not putting any photos on the board, because she would certainly not appreciate it, and she does not know me by the name of Wally Foot, so I would sincerely hope that guys reading this don't start quizzing her if she is still at the Bar. At the same time if anybody has any news, I'd like to hear it.

So, does anybody know anything?
