I also believe Lukasek is talking about giving the website address to other guys who are commenting to him about how the scene has changed for the worst in Rio.
There is no threat here.
Lukasek is very clear in saying the scene is disappointing for him. He is clear that for others it may be just fine.
I have chatted for several friends who are in Rio and some who just left. They back up Lukasek's assessment of the Balcony and the attitudes of some of the termas girls. Indeed they did find the scene to be different and in some ways disappointing.
Sorry for that in my last report but having just finished a marvelous evening, all of the doom and gloom seemed ludicrous. Also, I felt that giving the wrong price for a caipirinha at L'uomo (it's 14 not 25) was unfairly adding to this idea that everyone is just trying to cheat you. And that it could damage the reputations of a fine old institution.
I understand the sentiments being expressed. Not to get too lterary, but Rio is a metaphor for the lovely Cairioca herself. Because she can be so wonderful, it is all the worse when she takes it away. But the great thing about them both is that there is always something else just around the corner.
I'm not trying to change anyone's mind, just giving my take and striving for some accuracy. Now, if you want to talk about what really sucks in Rio, we can talk about traffic. Especially during carnival.

Then 3 or 4 trips to brazil this year.

every night I saw two police cars on the left and right of the balcony, I never saw them asking or talking with turists, neither asking ID, they just watch and care about what happens. Remember around of Balcony there are many children asking money, often guys playing capoeira and then asking money and yes, not only nice faces, but for me now from Balcony until Prado Junior looks like million times safer than when Help was still alive.
Balcony now, especially around Balcony is a really ugly zoo to my eyes with the ONLY good thing you pay no entrance and instead of hot beer from Balcony bar, after long waiting and for 6,60 reais I buy one from the seller close to Balcony, just couple of meters far, for 2,50 reais and not only me, but I saw many do this, cheaper and faster too.
And so far as the 80% of person around Balcony just stand up, now it miss only one that will rent the chairs.... :D

asianatic - you maybe could give more info (eg your knowledge of the city, whether you have some porto etc) so helpful answers could be offered. the hottest thing in rio during carnaval is carnaval. whether the area around the official competition or the parties rep001tered thru the city. to come for five days during carnaval but not for carnaval is kinda weird to me, but i am sure there are reasons. best i can say is that some of the high end termas will probably close. the low end won´t give a damn. if you know rio well you will have no trouble. if you don´t - as i guess from your mention of balcony and help - my guess is you won´t find much change in balcony to how it has been the past few weeks beyond perhaps a nominal attempt to cash in.
much of rio carries on as if nothing was happening during carnaval. it is not as you have to take part. if balcony and help was your scene, you can sometimes find freelancers in the late night botequims and sucos bars along ns copa. if you want to spend money and do the higher end, you will probably spend a lot more money cos it is carnaval and parties are not cheap, even if you can get a ticket.
hope you find what you are looking for. it seems some people don´t these days.
With the exchange rate and a healthier Real, perhaps Rio is not the place it was for some people. But for others Brasil is still the best place in the world, and this is the Brasil forum, so I am inclined to defend it - I trust that is ok with people?
With FKK in Germany, you can plan it like a package tour. Same for Thailand. Go in, pay your money, know what to expect and you get it. My feeling is that Brasil, especially Rio, is maybe offering less of the ´package tour sex´ that people could find before. I am sorry that some nice guys on here have not had the time of their lives, but labelling it as a write off, labelling the high end as worthless or the low end as ugly is not a statement of fact, simply your experience. Yes, you may have spoken to gringos who agree with you - but like attracts like. I have spoken to gringos who agree more with my experience (and one or two gentlemen who agree to differ).
My expertise is not in the high end. But I urge you to listen to someone like Euro who [i]does[/i] know how to work the high end termas (and is also a fan of FKK). Notice I said ´work.´ He uses a lot of style and technique, so check out his reports next time he posts on 4x4. Maybe it was the case that if you were not familiar with Brasilian ways, didn´t smile a lot, didn´t know how to make them laugh, suss out the genuine from the cash extractors, you could still get an acceptable time by spreading the odds. But now when you pay more, you naturally expect a higher return on ´hits´ - which is only reasonable. But perhaps you will have to work harder for it now. So you may find other countries satisfy your requirements better if you do not like the sound of it.
With the ´low end´ - yes, there are always many ugly girls. Partly cos anyone can work those places. Partly cos the stars are usually busy when you look, or only come out for a few hours, or only work certain nights, or only accept customers they like the look of. So again, you have to work at it - but that has always been the case in places like Mimosa. I am not just talking a matter of taste. I cannot post photos while travelling, but have posted comparison shots before and most of the board agreed that some of the best looking girls were from the low end places. One of the reasons I like Brasil it cos it is an adventure. For those that seek that, it is still here. For those that want to fly in for a couple of weeks and have everything the same as it is back home but with beautiful cheap bunda on a plate . . . Let´s see, would you go to a top club in NY or your own country, dressed like a pratt (in local terms), quibble about the price, act like a redneck, mooch around with a long face maybe and then complain that you couldn´t find any good nights of passion with groovy women? Of course not. Thailand will accommodate. Brasil is more choosy.
