I had a photocopy of my passport along with my USA -based driver's license and my friend had his passport card but not his passport. The policeman, who was obviously fishing for bribes, told me the copy of my passport and state ID. Were insufficient (even though I had earlier been told the opposite by an Indonesian lawyer, but he was probably wrong). When the police officer saw my friend's passport card he became a bit befuddled but then focused on me to get his bribe. In other words the passport card sort of worked although if my friend had been traveling alone without a better bribe prospect (I. E. , me with my photocopy) it might not have. In any case, it is not a bad idea to have one to carry around, although in situations where one might be vulnerable to being asked for one's passport, e. G. , North Jakarta at night, it may not be enough.

Plenty of white skin girls there. If you want to go to a club then head to Ratchada. The massage shops have some Karaoke rooms where you can chill with the girls. On my last night in BKK I went to CH at around 9 PM but there wasn't anybody that sticked out the bunch. You're right that the line up varies. In my opinion, Bangkok freelancer scene has nosedived in both looks, numbers and quality of service since around 2010 or so. Yes, many freelancers will still go for 1000 baht, but they might be reluctant to go far, or stay long. That used to be the no-hassle going rate, now it's a lower bound for most. The better looking ones might ask for 1500-2000 and only accept 1000 if the evening is slow.

Beer Garden still has the usual not-so-gracefully-aged pros, minus a few good ones who moved one (why is it always the good ones who get out of the scene? Disco in the Nana Hotel has changed format so many times that I have no idea what's going on there right now. At one point it was ladyboy-friendly and named "Equality", not sure if that's still on.

Influx of decent looking new girls into the freelancer scene is minimal. I find that girls who looked slightly better than mediocre 5-10 years ago are now the ones that look the best of the meager choice available, despite the extra age, wear & tear.

The semi-pros, girls who have day jobs or study, but supplement earnings by occasional freelancing on Sukhumvit, are almost totally extinct. There are occasional reports of sightings (often by people who can't tell them apart from pros), but they're like the Yeti now.

Along Sukhumvit, you'll still find more freelancers than in most other cities, but don't come with the expectations that it will be anything like the good not-that-old times.
